  • Looking in the Wrong Direction
    Sep 7 2024

In this powerful episode, I sit down with Romeo, also known as Mary “Shellie” Carson’s boyfriend at the time of her tragic death. Romeo, who refers to Shellie by her legal first name Mary, shares his side of the story, discussing the intense scrutiny he faced from the police, who focused on him rather than pursuing other leads. We explore how the case has deeply affected his personal life and how it still follows him today.

Tune in to hear Romeo’s truth, his experiences, and, to close the episode, one of his original songs.

Listen to more of Romeo’s music on Spotify: @TeNN4OUR.

  • Digging Deeper: A Case Through the Lens of Two POC
    Aug 30 2024

In this episode of *Under the Tree: The Murder of Shellie Carson*, I’m joined by a former co-worker who I recruited in 2020 to help dig deeper into this case. With the extra time on our hands from remote work, we dove into early theories, examined the role of the first responders, and discussed how we navigated this investigation as two people of color. Our conversation covers a wide range of topics, from the power of labels and white privilege to sibling rivalry, intermittent fasting, and even the devil himself. We also touch on the unexpected issues that came up during the recording, including audio glitches caused by my guest's Spectrum connection, and why I decided not to re-record the episode again due to mental health reasons.

**Note:** The audio might sound a bit off, but trust me, I’ve already re-recorded it once, and I wasn’t going to do it a third time for the sake of my mental well-being.
