Truly Scrumptious - A Food Festival Podcast

  • Summary

  • Hello and welcome to our Truly Scrumptious Podcast.

Where we talk Food Festivals, Festival Food, Foodie Friends and Friends of the Festival.

In each episode we will chat to one of our many friends - our stage chefs and bakers, food producers, festival team and other people involved in the festival world. It’s a huge world, it’s a hardworking one and great fun too. Although a tad stressful at times!

My name is Lotte Duncan a food writer, presenter and eater! I have been involved in many areas of the food industry for over forty years.

I’ve owned and run a cookery school and cafe. I’ve cooked on television a fair bit, hosted stages at many live shows, interviewed more chefs and bakers than I can remember and written a best selling cook book. Over the last 8 years I’ve spent my spring and summers judging food for the Great Taste Awards. And for the last 10 years I’ve been involved in Food Festivals.

Meet Jon Hacket! Jon comes from a background of advertising and film making. I met him when he was my camera man on a shoot. (Lucky chap)

He’s in charge of all things logistics - from fencing to marquees, infrastructure to loos and power supply to bins! He describes himself as the director of sanitation - he’s much more than that of course, and to me he’s my anchor! A calming influence when I have my inevitable melt down exactly 10 days before each festival. It’s what I do!

Together we will bring our festivals to life on this podcast, chat to our many friends, find out back stage gossip, tips and tricks from the chefs and bakers and just how we pull it all together to create a truly scrumptious foodie festival weekend!

  • COMBER REVISITED!
    Nov 18 2024

We're back! And we're hungry. Good job we're at a Food Festival!

We take another trip to one of the most beautiful countries and we eat. A lot.

The Comber Earlies Food Festival in Comber, Northern Ireland once again plays host to the honourable PGI Potato grown around Strangford Loch. Best steamed and served with quantities of butter and a sprinkling of parsley and salt.

I was really happy to return for another year to host the Meet the Producer Stage and do a spot of cooking too.

  • MORE POTATOES.....PART 2 OF OUR GLORIOUS TRIP TO NORTHERN IRELAND
    Sep 22 2023
We are on the last count down to Thame Food Festival which is at the end of September. A big event with huge infrastructure and complex logistics - and an often challenging final week or two as things change, move around and people book late!

Event's are moveable feasts - all your plans t the beginning of the year are often topsy turvy by the festival itself. It keeps us on our toes...ad can often lead to a sleepless night or two.
As we plunge towards D Day - I am reminded of the food festival we worked at in June where we didn't have any of the stresses from putting on the event - we just enjoyed it! The atmosphere, the people, the food, the drink and the sunshine.
Here is part two of our trip to Northern Ireland to take part in the Comber Earlies Potato Festival.
First up I had a lovely chat with my matey Paula McIntyre....

  • Potatoes, Potatoes and Potatoes! Northern Ireland, Comber and a glorious food festival...and Potatoes!
    Aug 16 2023
In June, Jon and I flew over to Northern Ireland. I had been asked to host the “Meet the Producers’ Stage at the Comber Earlies Potato Festival in Comber which sits on Strangford Loch.
It is a beautiful town, in a stunning part of the country and we were treated to a joyful festival of food and lovely people.
My fab friend Paula McIntyre (more from her later) who you would have heard on a previous podcast - put me forward and introduced me to Heather Shields from Ards and North Down Council.
Together with her team they put on a truly wonderful event. The sun shone that day, the food, drink, music and laughter flowed.
