    Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell continue their coverage of two appeal hearings heard last week in the case of thrice-accused rapist Bowen Turner and his sweetheart plea deal. Today. listeners will get to hear Part Two of the Chloe Bess interview, where she talks about what it was like being in the courtroom and on her thoughts about how the system continues to coddle and make excuses for Bowen, who sexually assaulted her as a teenager. Also on the show, Mandy and Liz begin sharing their findings from the stack of medical records leaked to them in the Mica Francis case, starting with the first few months of 2018, the year of Mica’s first alleged suicide attempt. From the get-go, Mica’s marriage to Myrtle Beach pastor JP Miller was defined by a questionable mental health diagnosis that continues to plague her memory to this day, five months after her death. Records from January through March 2018 show that Mica had immediate doubts about this diagnosis and a — despite her husband’s insistence that she remain compliant with her medication — JP himself was playing pharmacist.     The Bowen Turner case in South Carolina has been one for the outrage records. Listeners across the country have been horrified as they watched the justice system coddle Bowen over and over while the thrice-accused rapist gave his second, third and fourth chances the middle finger. But now, something good could come from the case — a case that included the horrific bullying of Dallas Stoller, one of his accusers. Bullying that resulted in her death. Something good might come from Bowen’s 2022 sham of a plea deal hearing — orchestrated by a cunning lawyer-legislator, executed by a prosecutor blinded by ambition and approved by a Good Ole Boy judge. Change might be coming because of an appeal filed by another one of Bowen’s accusers, Chloe Bess. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell take a look at the historic filing and what went down during oral arguments in front of the state Court of Appeals on Tuesday. The state’s victims bill of rights affords victims the opportunity to be heard in court. In trials, victims can testify before a verdict is rendered — before a potential conviction. But in plea deals they’ve been restricted to being heard only after the judge has accepted the pleading — only AFTER the conviction.     Leaked medical records from Mica Francis’ in-patient and outpatient visits to mental health facilities were leaked to the public over the past week, and investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell are diving in. According to the records — some of which were sent directly to Luna Shark Media and others that were posted online by a TikToker sympathetic to JP Miller’s plight — Mica was confused about her diagnosis and its symptoms. At the same time, these records raise questions about how Mica was being treated and where clinicians were getting some of their information about her alleged behavior. In one report, the clinician notes that Mica recognized the need to “listen to her husband when he raises concerns.” Also on the show, one of the two appeals in the Bowen Turner case is set to be heard and it’s a big deal. Next week attorneys representing one of Bowen’s victims — whom he pleaded guilty to assaulting — will argue that the prosecution and defenses deprived her from her constitutional right to be present at Bowen’s plea hearing. Well researched, interesting story, BUT...

The many deaths surrounding the Murdaugh dynasty in South Carolina has been a developing, fascinating story over the past couple of years. This podcast is well researched and provides interesting insight into the case. Unfortunately I couldn't get pass 12 episodes, as I found the structure a mess and the host/ writer is (and I really hate saying this) one of the most infuriating and annoying individuals I have had the misfortune to hear. Incredibly conceited from the get go, she regularly boasts of her achievements with the story and dismissive to other media outlets (because she's the best). Her delivery has a "vocal fry", something I did notice, but didn't think about it too much until she told the listeners off for mentioning it in her comments. Bringing in her fiancé to tell us what an amazing journalist she is doesn't help. They talk about haters, a lot of complaining. She comes across incredibly arrogant, so much so it's a distraction. I wanted to support this, I think it's a fascinating, but tragic story. However I feel the writer's continuous boasting, unpleasant manner and placing herself at the centre of the tale is grating and frankly disrespectful to the victims in this story.

Fascinating story

The Murdaugh story is unbelieable and I am sure it will be made into a film - such a large web that touches so many areas. However Mandy's voice is very annoying and she is constantly telling you how wonderful she is. You can usually fast forward the first 10 mins and last 5 mins with her trying to sell you stuff or explain how great she is. If it wasn't because the story is just so amazing I would have turned off a long time ago.

Fascinating story, thoroughly researched however..

So far I'm 18 episodes in and I want to hear more but I have issues with the production,
Firstly Audible automatically takes you to the most recent podcast and if you are trying to capture story from the start then there's constant scrolling through.
Secondly, the disjointed ordering of podcasts is confusing, rather than episodes,1,2,3 etc you get an episode about Gloria Satter, then one about where's the money, then back to one about Stephen Smith, then about the money, etc etc, this so difficult to follow.
Thirdly there's a huge amount of repeated sound-bites so you hear the same pieces again and again and then you can miss the new bits of information.
Fourthly, I too find it annoying when the reporter is telling us how wonderful they are to have exposed a story that everyone else overlooked.
Finally, I pay a monthly subscription for Audible so its annoying to have so many adverts and I am unimpressed with the reporters fiancée bombarding me with the opportunity to advertise and how the reporter and her boss Will are changing world, yes be proud but you've not invented Penicillin!
Finally, finally I have zero complaints with Mandys voice it's genuine
