• Episode 17 Season 4: If The Holidays Are Difficult
    Nov 25 2024

    Description:

In this episode, we explore why the holiday season can be uniquely challenging for many, particularly those coping with grief, strained family dynamics, loneliness, trauma, financial stress, or mental health struggles. For many, the holidays are a time of joy, family, and the celebration of the birth of our savior. For others, the holidays can be more complicated. We discuss practical strategies to protect your emotional well-being, such as setting boundaries, managing expectations, creating space for rest and joy, and finding meaningful ways to connect with others. We also discuss how you can help others who may be going through similar challenges. Remember it's okay if you're feeling a lot of emotions during the holidays. Take time to feel these, while also finding ways to feel peace, joy, and comfort where you're at, even if the holidays can be difficult. By addressing these challenges with compassion and by being intentional, you can navigate the season more peacefully and create a sense of hope, safety, and healing for yourself and others, even amidst the challenges of the holidays.

  • Episode 16 Season 4: Embodying Authentic Joy After Trauma
    Nov 11 2024

    Description:

It can be easy to get caught up in what happened to us, in difficulties, and in the healing work so much, that forget why we're doing this healing work, to experience more joy! The following saying resonated with me and inspired this podcast: "You're not healing to be able to handle trauma. You're used to trauma. You're healing to be able to handle joy." Joy is one of the fruits of the spirit and a fruit of our healing labors. God wants us to not only experience joy, but to embody it. We cover why joy is so important in trauma recovery, how to avoid toxic positivity and bypassing when cultivating joy, and how to cultivate more joy in your life with the realities and unique challenges of being a trauma survivor in mind. As a survivor, it can be more challenging to experience joy, but like the rest of healing work, it is a skill that can be learned. You CAN live a joyful life, in spite of all that has happened to you.

  • Episode 15 Season 4: Six Types of Self-Care and How They Can Help Your Recovery
    Oct 28 2024

    Description:

Many of us heard growing up that self-care was "selfish" or "ungodly." However, no one can give from an empty well, and even Jesus escaped the crowds for rest, solitude, and time with God. We all need forms of self-care to heal and restore our bodies, minds, and souls. Healing from trauma requires a holistic approach to self-care, addressing all aspects of our well-being. There are six categories of self-care: physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual, and practical. Each of these can be approached from a Christian perspective, especially for trauma survivors, to promote healing and growth. For survivors, it’s crucial to approach these categories of self-care with patience and self-compassion. Healing is a gradual process, and integrating these practices into daily life can help rebuild a sense of safety, control, and well-being. Additionally, anchoring these practices in faith can provide a deep sense of purpose and connection throughout the healing journey.

  • Episode 14 Season 4: Types of Narcissists and How to Spot Them
    Oct 14 2024

    Description:

While it's easy to go down a rabbit hole on the concept of narcissism, it's good to be empowered and educated and protect yourself from narcissistic behaviors in certain others. Please keep in mind that having a certain level of narcissistic traits can be healthy in a balance. However, narcissism exists on a spectrum with some people having higher narcissistic traits, and even some who have full blown NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which is in the DSM). We will go over the common categories of narcissists both in clinical and common spaces. We'll discuss how to spot each one, what their behaviors are, how they interact with others, and how you can protect yourself from these different types.

Understanding what went wrong, we can also learn strategies to use our mirror neurons to heal our trauma through the body, brain, and neural network at its source. • Episode 12 Season 4: Roles and Relationships in Narcissistic Family Dynamics
    Sep 9 2024

    Description:

If you were raised in a family where people were narcissists or had high narcissistic traits, understanding the roles and relationship dynamics in a narcissistic family can help you understand your trauma and protect yourself now. When we say narcissistic family, this doesn't mean everyone is in the family has high narcissistic traits, but it means that one or more people does, either children, parents, or both, and this deeply impacts all family members.

We discuss the roles children play in this family dynamic. Then we discuss narcissistic family dynamics in general and the unwritten rules and behaviors in this family structure. Lastly, we cover when a sibling has these traits and how this can impact others in the family and when a parent has narcissistic traits and how this impacts the family. While it isn't healthy to obsess over the narcissist, understanding these family dynamics, you can learn more about why you are the way you are, know it isn't your fault, love all people in your family in the best way possible, and start the healing process to set healthy boundaries and protect yourself. You can live the life God intended, because you are empowered and educated on this family dynamic.

  • Episode 11 Season 4: How to Heal Trauma Without Blaming Yourself
    Aug 26 2024

    Episode Description
Even if we know it intellectually not to be true, trauma, abuse, and neglect survivors internalize blame when they are mistreated, particularly those who suffer from childhood abuses and narcissistic abuses. Knowing the difference between blame and self-validation, finding the balance between knowing what happened to you and taking ownership of healing, and finding the line between self-compassion and victim mindsets can make all the difference in your healing journey. It's important to know that two things can be true at once:

    • Abuse is never your fault AND you can take ownership of your healing journey.
    • You are enough AND feeling like it is your fault is normal when you've experienced abuse.
    • You can acknowledge what happened to you AND not live in blame or victim mentalities.
