After clips that went viral on tiktok of Selena Gomez' bad spanish accent, to cringey dances and musical lyrics- people were shocked that this trainwreck of a film was being made and even praised. Especially its being inaccurate in their depiction of latino culture and other marginalized communities, and why latino people everywhere on tiktok, youtube and even the news are mad at this film. From the producer being terrible behind the scenes, having bad writing, confusing horrible plot devices, to major casting problems- such as Selena Gomez being casted in a problematic role in which she can't speak the language and the role reinforcing bad stereotypes about latino people. People are also upset that this movie musical won over Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's Wicked, despite Emilia Pérez having the worst music ever heard in a musical.
