The Riverlands Podcast: The History of Central Europe

By: Jacob Wheeler
  • Summary

  • The Riverlands is a region whose vast lands have hosted states of many names over the years: the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Habsburg Realms, Yugoslavia, Dacia, Swabia... It is a region whose inhabitants are often united only by their shared challenges of encroaching outsiders, lack of oceanic trade, and fiercely independent cultures. On the Riverlands Podcast we will cover the development of this beautiful land from the Early Medieval Period to the modern day. We will focus on all aspects of development, from the political history and numerous conflicts, to the many societal changes and constants. Along the way we will see what we can learn about economics, culture, religion, statecraft, and more!

The region of the Riverlands today includes the proud nations of: Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Western Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, Southern Germany, and Switzerland. Over the course of the podcast, we will grow and develop with all of them.
