  • Episode 5 - Perseverance Leads To Transformation
    May 3 2024

    We are very excited to share our conversation with Jeremy Rosell with you. He and his wife Christina are living their dream of creating a wedding and events experience for people so that their dreams can come true. As they follow divine inspiration and invite others into their story, we all are blessed by their passion for positive impact. Although we did not get a chance to include Christina in this interview, I am sure we will get to know her more in the future.

    In talking with Jeremy, it’s easy to see how God has planted in him a passion for people, what’s not initially obvious, is the perseverance that he has developed over the years. We are grateful for his willingness to share just a little about his story. There is so much more that we are excited to share in future episodes.

    We discussed briefly Angela Duckworth’s research and book titled “Grit”. Check out this 6-minute TED Talk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H14bBuluwB8&t=206s

    As Jeremy and I peeled back more of his story, we see how faith plays a part in the realization of your dream. There are many times in Jeremy’s life where faith produced the passion and perseverance that resulted in a dream coming true. We see these same beliefs supported by the teaching of Jesus as he responds to questions from his disciples.https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2017:20-21&version=NIV

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+21%3A21-22&version=NIV

    We also see the power of a team as Jeremy and Christina encourage, support, and inspire each other by committing to their dreams, believing they can achieve them, and asking the tough questions when they need to be asked.

    Take a few minutes to view this video on The Power of Mentorship by Rob Dial. He suggests the help of a mentor will collapse time helping you get to your destination much sooner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcTtQ9iu0TU

    God inspired Paul to write a letter to the early church in Rome. Many of the concepts Jeremy shared with us are expressed in a few verses from this letter.

    “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, Because God has poured out his love into our hearts be the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5: 1-5

    Thank you, Jeremy and Christina, for sharing your dream with us!

  • The Art of Self Discipline - The Potential Podcast
    Apr 27 2024

    Our topic is Self-Discipline, and our guest is Lindsey Attaway. Although we may see Lindseyas person who embodies this ideal, she believes it is a skill she is “consistently striving for” as it is a never-ending pursuit.

    Thank you, Lindsey, for sharing so much of yourself with us. Your humility and self-awareness are some of the many ways you demonstrate your commitment to personal development.

    For those who are hungry to learn about this topic, here are a couple of resources.

    What motivates a person to make changes in their lives through self-discipline? In Lindsey’s case, a life experience left her feeling a way she didn’t like so she started searching for an outlet and found exercise and strength training.

    I am a big supporter of physical fitness for many reasons. To stay focused on this topic, leaning into workouts that are uncomfortable and grow our bodies impact all aspects of our being. See this article on the impact exercise has on mental health. (4-minute read)

    Lindsey self-development story includes bouts with failure. In her view, failure is an opportunity to learn and adapt. As she shares some of hers, we can see how positive it is when we embrace it and learn from it.

    Failure is Necessary - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHIsMGDaeFw

    As an intentional strategy, Lindsey makes decisions in advance as to what habits she wants to engage in and then prepares in advance to set herself up for success limiting opportunities for her mind and emotions to get in the way of engaging in the healthy habits she has in mind. New habits become second nature as we practice them setting us up for “Habit Stacking” which James Clear speaks to in his book, Atomic Habits.

    Lindsey says you can find your motivation to do the things you want to do ultimately by knowing your why! What is your greater purpose. Who are the people you care about you will be able to serve better? How will growing your confidence and impact affect those around you?

    “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain

  • How to be a Biblical Steward - The Potential Podcast
    Apr 27 2024

    We are deeply grateful to our guest today, Mike Barber, for sharing the wisdom and experience that 50 years as a Professional Financial Advisor has provided him. Our topic today is Stewardship and as he shared his story with us, it’s easy to see how God uses His word, the people in our lives and situations we walk through to build our story and impact the people around us.

    Here are a couple of definitions of stewardship;

    Charles Bugg – Christianity.com: Utilizing and managing all resources God provides for the glory of God and the betterment of His creation.

    Merriam-Webster: the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care.

    As a reflection on Mike’s story, I can see many “Archie Bunkers” in my life who in hindsight, had great impact on my future, that in the moment, I was blind to or just did not want to see. In Paul’s first letter to the people in the church in Corinth, he wrote;

    “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” 1 Corinthians 1:27

    Can we open our eyes to this possibility? That we don’t always know what is best for us and the people around us who we are likely to label as wrong, bad or ignorant may have the most to teach us?

    The Parable of the Talents we were referring to.

    • Simple Video Explanation - https://youtu.be/vQ_RLvvpeNU?si=-Mt_v2oWSprhH-RI

    The other impactful message for me in Mike’s story is the fact that when he started out, he didn’t really enjoy the work, and it didn’t really pay very well, however as he shifted gears in his mindset and became a student who developed skill, his love for the work blossomed into a 50-year career that has enabled him to have a significant impact in the lives of thousands of people, including the generations to come.
