The NoteSpire Radio Artist Insight with Dave Wallace

  • Summary

  • Dave Wallace’s music is rooted in the songs of the 60’s when entertainers like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and the golden age of radio and records changed his life -- from one of conflict and abuse to a person that wears a guitar on his shoulder and finds a prayer in his heart.

“I could never have survived, moved on or overcome much of the past,” he said of memories of his parent’s split-up, moves across country and the checkered times he describes as dark. “Without music or my faith, I wouldn’t be here, or be the musician I’ve become.”

“My first original song was based on the lyrics of ‘Pray’ Christian music that I began to work through on a nylon-string guitar,” said Wallace, “So I would say that a lot of my music came from painful situations, the times we loved country music and knew it was time to get down on our knees and pray.”

Over the years, he ‘moved on’ to the famous refrains of Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. His aspiration was to sing in church and to connect his audience with a higher power. “When I sing I don’t sound exactly like any one vocalist, but I use my own style, rhythm and tone.”

In 2010, he decided to settle in St. George with his wife, Kay. “Over the years I’ve think I’ve gone from a ‘so-so guitar player’ to being a more authentic entertainer,” said Wallace of change. “My one-time lead guitar player, Jeff Eastwood told me to get rid of the music stand and find the discipline and heart of a professional.”

He has good memories of the first time he jumped onto a stage in Las Vegas, and in 2007, his role as worship leader for the Centerville Baptist Church.

“To me, it’s important not to put on a facade, but to reach out to the audience and to say as a Christian… Yes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.”

In fact, music is the ‘go to’ that Dave has always followed. “I think the devil tried to take it all away from me,” he said of lost years and dark times. “But I got it back -- a stability, an opportunity to play, to entertain and I’m so grateful for that life.”
