The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast

By: Jo Hickey-Hall
  • Summary

  • Most people are baffled at any idea that fairies could exist...and telling people you've had a fairy encounter is a major taboo. The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast hears from people who’ve had experiences and want to share them. Whether you’re already a believer, or full of intrigue, come open-minded and open-hearted…simply listen, and make your own mind up. But take heed, these are not winged Tinkerbells. These are real fairies. Please note: this podcast is not suitable for children as it may contain some unsettling, frightening or creepy material from time to time. Jan 23 2025

Joshua Cutchin is an acclaimed author and researcher of the paranormal.

He is the author of seven critically-acclaimed books: 2015's A Trojan Feast: The Food and Drink Offerings of Aliens, Faeries, and Sasquatch (translated into Spanish as Banquete Troyano); 2016's The Brimstone Deceit: An In-Depth Examination of Supernatural Scents, Otherworldly Odors, & Monstrous Miasmas; 2018's Thieves in the Night: A Brief History of Supernatural Child Abductions; and 2020's Where the Footprints End: High Strangeness and the Bigfoot Phenomenon, Volumes I & II, with Timothy Renner. In 2022, he released his two-part masterwork: Ecology of Souls: A New Mythology of Death & the Paranormal.

The day before our interview, Joshua's new film The Lady of The Lake was released on Prime, so I took the opportunity to ask him about it. (frustratingly, it's not available yet in the UK).
    • The Lady of the Lake (2024) Trailer -...

The documentary film is a Fortean perspective on the case of the murder of Haille Illingworth whose remains were found in Lake Crescent in 1940, after she had gone missing in 1937. See Joshua's blog for more info.

We get into all things watery, sea monsters, thresholds and Otherworldly inversions!

  • Ep 95: Brother Richard: ' Peace Between the Kingdoms'
    Dec 22 2024

    Send us a text

Listeners, I very much needed this chat with Capuchin Franciscan Priest-Friar, Brother Richard. I hope you feel you get a lot from it too.

We discuss Brother Richard's personal encounters with Otherworldly beings, first as a child and later as a Priest-Friar. He also talks about the Franciscan Order's understandings of Non-Human beings, they steps they take when protection is required or in rare cases exorcism, and he shares his own experiences of aiding in these circumstances.

    We also discuss:
    - Rites of Passage (particularly in relation to young people)
    - Offerings to Otherworldly beings
    and so much more.

I found Brother Richard's suggestion of prayer when in a wild place such a gift:

"Bless every being present, seen and unseen, even the beings I pass by, around or through, without knowing."

  • Ep 94: Otherworldly Hiking Encounter (Sedona, Arizona)
    Dec 16 2024

    Send us a text

I chat to Tim about a strange interaction which took place during a hike and tapped deeply into his psyche.

It marked both a shift in Tim's life direction and a return to his underlying sense of 'true' self and an openness in life which had slipped away during adulthood. It continues to hold meaning in his current relationships.

We discuss how our home environment as a child shapes how we interact with the Otherworld and how, as an adult we can lose our sense of 'being'.

I hope you enjoy this discussion.

The discussion he watched between Patrick Harpur and 'a philosopher' was the interview between Patrick and Bernardo Kastrup.

Very interesting podcast

I love this podcast, the only issue that I have is that sometimes the mic of the guest(s) doesn't have optimal performance and it is difficult to understand them.

One of the very best podcasts on the subject.

If you have an interest in fairies/folklore and the paranormal then stumbling across this podcast is like finding treasure. Jo is a wonderful host, with a soothing voice, and arguably one of the biggest names in the field of fairy/folklore research in the UK today. Her episodes are well thought-out, her interviews are fascinating and the love and respect that she has for the subject, and the people/stories discussed, shines through in every episode. I would highly recommend this podcast.
