The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast

By: Jo Hickey-Hall
  • Summary

  • Most people are baffled at any idea that fairies could exist...and telling people you've had a fairy encounter is a major taboo. The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast hears from people who’ve had experiences and want to share them. Whether you’re already a believer, or full of intrigue, come open-minded and open-hearted…simply listen, and make your own mind up. But take heed, these are not winged Tinkerbells. These are real fairies. Please note: this podcast is not suitable for children as it may contain some unsettling, frightening or creepy material from time to time. Jeremy Harte is an independent folklore researcher and author. He has written a number of books on the subject including Explore Fairy Traditions which won Katharine Briggs Award and the more recent Cloven Country: The Devil and the English Landscape

Jeremy's new book Fairy Encounters in Medieval England: Landscape, Folklore and the Supernatural is a really great read. It's entertaining and wittily written.

Supernatural encounters from primary source material are tied together throughout the chapters and also include stories related to documented miracles. The second half covers fairy-related place names in the English landscape.

    ⭐️ In the B O N U S on P A T R E O N this fortnight, I read a couple of pages of the new book.

🤩 Jeremy is a bit of a legend in the folklore circles, so do catch him live at an event if you can...he's a great speaker.

  • Ep 87: Andreas Kornevall: Waking the Dragons

This interview with Andreas Kornevall was prompted by my watching the very excellent discussion 'Myth, Imagination and Truth', on Podcast Adventures in Awareness between Patrick Harpur and Bernardo Kastrup.

    https://www.kornevall.com

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=X1bYxHRCOzxvF-PB&v=r4hEOJQpbiw&feature=youtu.be

During their chat, host of Adventures in Awareness, Amir Giles, mentioned the work of Andreas Kornevall and spoke about the idea of the Dragon being a way to describe the integrative journey of the spirit and soul. It really spoke to me and so I was delighted to get him on for a chat.

I highly recommend Waking the Dragons and these are some other interviews with Andreas:

⭐️ In the Patreon Special Bonus I read Andreas' version of Orpheus and Eurydice and how this Classical Greek myth relates to 'Our Soul, As Beloved'.

Big thanks to Jessica for sharing her story 🌿

I first heard about Jessica's encounter with a tall dark man on Glastonbury Tor on Darragh Mason's Spirit Box Podcast. Since then, she feels her sense of this being has developed further. This discussion is a chance to chat about what their meeting now means to her.

We hear how he has entered her life in other ways and how he is a source of guidance and support to her.

I was amazed to hear an updated detail about The Dark Man's request for "a cup of tea" and "a cigarette" that he made to Jessica and her friend, as they stood, terrified on the hill of the Tor at 4.30am.

Jessica takes tarot appointments and her contact details are: jessietwobears1210@gmail.com and @jessie_twobears

Very interesting podcast

I love this podcast, the only issue that I have is that sometimes the mic of the guest(s) doesn't have optimal performance and it is difficult to understand them.

One of the very best podcasts on the subject.

If you have an interest in fairies/folklore and the paranormal then stumbling across this podcast is like finding treasure. Jo is a wonderful host, with a soothing voice, and arguably one of the biggest names in the field of fairy/folklore research in the UK today. Her episodes are well thought-out, her interviews are fascinating and the love and respect that she has for the subject, and the people/stories discussed, shines through in every episode. I would highly recommend this podcast.
