  • The Lou Perez Podcast - Sean Malone
    Feb 24 2025

Check out my book, That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore: On the Death and Rebirth of Comedy https://amzn.to/3VhFa1r

My boy Sean Malone (Return on Ideas) stops by to discuss our affection for Florida, David Lynch (who should have been from Florida), and Rick Beato. We take time to goof on the European Union. We mock the greatest living communist, Richard Wolff, who our boy Gene Epstein demolished at their Soho Forum debate. Forget the 100 million dead, Wolff’s bit on the PlayStation 5 is the strongest argument against communism. And Sean and I remember our collaboration on FEE’s animated series, Common Sense Soapbox.

  • The Lou Perez Podcast - Tran Hoang Calvin
    Feb 17 2025

Check out my book, That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore: On the Death and Rebirth of Comedy https://amzn.to/3VhFa1r

I’m joined by my friend Tran Hoang Calvin of Nodehaus to talk about what’s so special about TikTok, being mistaken for Chinese by Chinese people (we’ve all been there), the iPhone’s insistence that you remember you’re mortal, and how you might want to change your name (and/or gender) for SEO purposes.

Calvin has a great series, where he produces elaborate voicemail recordings. You can watch each one being made in real time on his TikTok…that is until TikTok is gone.

We’re 13 days into my birthday celebration of 50 BURPEES A DAY FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY! I’ve been rocking XX-XY Athletics, as I painfully push-up and jump ever closer to 43 years old. • The Lou Perez Podcast - Jon Miltimore
    Feb 10 2025

Check out my book, That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore: On the Death and Rebirth of Comedy https://amzn.to/3VhFa1r

“Finding oneself [is] a misnomer: a self is not found but made.” – From Dawn to Decadence

Big thanks to my guest Jon Miltimore for turning me onto the ever so quotable Jacques Barzun (quoted above).

On this episode, Jon and I talk about the culture of wrestling—whose default setting is tough-as-nails—and we grapple with “Minnesota nice,” shitty service, and women who start fights their men have to finish.

I’ve been reading Jon’s work for years, but if you’re looking for a good place to start, check out his viral piece about Starbucks and the decline of good manners and service. When those fall, we’re all doomed. Not just the venti-latte drinkers among us.

Thanks to Elon Musk, my video, James Bond has a license to kill hate speech, has now reached __ million views. (Click the link to find out how many exactly.)
