The Lawyers Hip Hop Happy Hour

By: Alfred Guillaume III Esq.
  • Summary

  • Each month criminal defense attorney Alfred Guillaume III invites a different guest to join him in his studio to dig through the crates of his vinyl record collection for a two-part interview: to discuss their life journey (part one) and their love of hip-hop music and culture (part two). As an added bonus, Alfred hosts a monthly behind the scenes episode of each interview to analyze the music that he and his guest discussed during the show. Along the way Alfred provides insider details about some of the most interesting cases he's been a part of during his 20 year career. These true crime stories include murder mysteries, international drug conspiracies and massive Ponzi schemes. New episodes are released on the 12th of each month.

    Nov 12 2024

Attorney David Clunie is currently an equity partner at the financial services firm Edward Jones. He is the former executive director of the Black Economic Alliance and worked in the Obama White House and Department of Treasury.

Dave grew up in New York City during hip-hop’s golden era. Not only is he from New York, but he’s from the birthplace of hip-hop, the Boogie Down Bronx.

This episode is for my true hip-hop heads. If you are ready to listen to us discuss our favorite track from Raekwon’s Only Built for Cuban Linx, about whether Nas’s It Was Written is a superior album than Illmatic or if you know about that Raekown Purple tape, this is the episode for you!

  • Ep. 30: The Hardest Working Man in Show Business.
    Nov 12 2024

Attorney David Clunie is an equity partner at the financial services & wealth management firm Edward Jones. Prior to joining Edward Jones, he worked as the Executive Director of the Black Economic Alliance, a nonpartisan coalition of Black business leaders and allies.

Dave started his career in Big Law, at the NYC firm Paul Weiss, Rifkand, Wharton and Garrison, leaving the firm briefly to accept a federal clerkship with a district court judge in Pennsylvania.

During the 2008 presidential campaign, Dave took an unpaid position in the campaign of then Senator Barak Obama, and we all know how the story ended for President Obama. Dave didn’t stop there; he did such a good job during the campaign he landed a job in President Obama’s White House. After serving faithfully in the White House, Dave transitioned to the Treasury Department under Treasury Secretary Jack Lew.

I met Dave in 2002, during our first year of study at Howard University School of Law, he is one of the hardest working people I’ve ever met, and I cannot wait for you to hear his story.
