2024 Best Restaurants in New York City

This mouthwatering episode of "The Italian Restaurant Podcast" takes listeners on an extensive eating tour of New York City's top dining establishments. It raves about Hell's Kitchen restaurant SESAMO, highlighting their unique fusion pastas like squid ink tagliatelle with lemongrass and chili oil as well as their inventive yuzu and sake cocktails.

The episode then revisits the Theatre District's Rezdôra, waxing poetic about their pumpkin ravioli bathed in amaretto and dissolving Parmesan tortellini that transport diners to Italy. No Italian food tour is complete without pizza, so it breaks down what makes Lucali in Carroll Gardens prime pie goals - from perfect crust to well-balanced sweet tomato sauce and just enough melted mozzarella.

Beyond pasta and pizza, the episode explores quintessential Danny Meyer New American cuisine at Gramercy Tavern, detailing standouts like lobster pot pie and what makes it a NYC dining gem. It also swoons over Crown Shy's elegant atmosphere and Grand Marnier crepe cake spectacle. The episode then dives into Royal Korean tasting menu favorite Kochi and its artistic presentations of dishes like mackerel sashimi wrapped in scorched rice paper.

No food tour of the city is complete without icons like Katz's Delicatessen, which the episode says remains a salty, fatty meat sandwich dream after 128 years. It also sings praise of Le Bernardin’s unmatched technical skill and butter-bathed langoustine. Other restaurants highlighted as NYC greats include the no-frills charm of L&B Spumoni Gardens Sicilian slices, Estela's inventive small plates, the luxe Peking duck at Hwa Yuan, and Oxomoco's flavor-packed tacos. This is a must-listen episode for food lovers and culinary enthusiasts discovering the ultimate Italian restaurants in New York City as well as icons across cuisines.

  • Hell's Kitchen of the Manhattan Borough | A What To Do in Hell's Kitchen
    May 10 2023
Hell’s Kitchen is a small section of the Manhattan borough, with a kinda crazy history. But we're here to discuss things and places the city is known for in modern times. It's known for its unique and diverse restaurants, local landmarks, and attractions like Broadway caliber shows. Located between West 34th and West 59th St's, 9th and 10th ave. in the area, is where most of the Hell's Kitchen places to visit are. I recall being a transplant to the area and looking for things to do in Hell's Kitchen and anything in close proximity to me as I adjusted to not being able to just jump in my car and drive due to the traffic. The traffic in New York is brutal, it's no secret. So anything that's in close distance is a double plus for me. If you're a foodie looking for an awesome place to dine, be sure to stop by any of the restaurants located in Hell's Kitchen. You can literally find anything your hunger craves for. Not to mention the ethnic variations of New York in general. For a taste of local history and culture, head over to Rudy's Bar and Grill which is actually on the outskirts of Hells Kitchen. This dive bar, which used to be a speakeasy, has been frequented by some of NYC's most famous people. You'll be greeted by an iconic pig statue outside, which has served as the bar's bouncer for over two decades, and has done a pretty good job at it! Just kidding! They also have a beer list that will make any beer lover excited to visit, and complimentary hot dogs with every drink order. Valhalla, located on 9th Avenue, is another great spot for beer lovers and also for people who are Viking history buff or just enjoy Viking-centric decorations and vibes in general. Try the savory sliders or buffalo wings, which pack a unique kick that will tantalize your taste buds. If you're in the mood for some Thai cuisine, Pure Thai Cookhouse is a sure bet. This cozy restaurant has an authentic charm that's often missing from other Thai spots in the neighborhood. The Ratchaburi crab, served with homemade pork noodles, is a standout dish that's not to be missed. For a night of live music, Bar Nine is the place to be. This venue is famous for its nightly live music performances and has a variety of games to keep you entertained, including classic arcade games, pool tables, and Skee Ball. Donnie Kehr and the deuling pianos used to perform on Fridays and Saturdays but after the whole Covid thing they decided to take it on the road. Music lovers should also visit Terminal 5, a Hell's Kitchen venue that's hosted many memorable shows over the years. With three floors and plenty of space to dance or hang out at the bar, Terminal 5 is a rite of passage for many New Yorkers. For a more laid-back experience, visit the Fountain House Gallery. This art gallery provides a platform for artists with mental illness to exhibit their work, with displays ranging from fiber art to graffiti-style spray paint on board. Lastly, make sure to stop by the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum located on Pier 86. The museum is housed in the USS Intrepid, an aircraft carrier that fought in World War II and the Vietnam War. Visitors can learn about American military history, snap photos of the Concorde and the Space Shuttle Enterprise, and even climb inside the Growler, the only US guided missile submarine open to the public. In conclusion, Hell's Kitchen is a neighborhood that's full of surprises and hidden gems. From delicious food to live music and local history, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
