  • 45 - Approaching Organizing and Spirituality w/ Rev Left Radio
    Feb 22 2023

Spirituality is one of the most difficult subjects to talk about. Institutionalized religion has historically been a force of reaction to oppress the masses. A lot of people turn towards the Left out of their legitimate negative experiences that result from religious or spiritual practice. Whether we want to admit it or not, the same can be unfortunately said about political organizing. While it is easy to romanticize the work that we do, organizing spheres are not perfect. The fact that almost every one of us can name someone who has been harmed through this work is indicative of the costly nature that comes from our work. On this episode of The Heatwave, we wanted to spark a conversation around this issue with the help of the one and only Breht O'Shea from Revolutionary Left Radio. We discussed the pernicious trends that happen within organizing that endanger the health and safety of others and what can we possibly do about it.

  • 44 - EL PODER DE LA ROSA
    Dec 30 2022

To cool off from a long year filled with many ups and downs, we decided to take a break from our regular episode format and analyze two different pieces of pop culture, the Marvel movie, Wakanda Forever, and the Mexican television series, La Rosa de Guadalupe. Both are quite different and diverging approaches to communicating their message but as you will hear, they share similar (problematic) end goals. We hope y'all enjoy it!
