Hello and welcome to The Fiduciary Academy, the podcast of the Professional Fiduciary Association of California! I’m your host Ron Greenwald.

Dedicated to educating individuals and their families about California’s Professional Fiduciaries, we explore the multifaceted roles they play, and the numerous and complex responsibilities they have in the lives of their clients.

Whether appointed by the court or privately hired, Professional Fiduciaries are in the unique position of safeguarding a person’s interests and desired quality of life, and they do so with oversight by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.

While they ethically manage and protect the personal affairs, property, or assets of their client and help to ensure their mental and physical well-being and desired quality of life, much of what they do remains a mystery to the public. The Fiduciary Academy podcast is dedicated to changing just that.

In our first upcoming episode, we’re going to be talking about a topic we’ve all seen on television and some of you may have even experienced in life–hoarded properties.

I’ll be joined by Meredith Taylor of IMT Associates, a licensed Professional Fiduciary, social worker and licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as well as Meg Connell of The Organized One, an expert in hoarding, valuation, and organization.

Together, they are going to help us understand: “When Trash is Treasure and Treasure is Trash: How To Find Valuable Items In A Hoarding Situation”

Here are a few sample interview questions we plan on asking in the upcoming episode
    • Can you give our listeners a better understanding of hoarding behavior and why people do it?
    • Once you’ve been called out to a hoarded property, what is the first thing you do?
    • What is the best way to deal with a person who hoards, especially when cleaning out their property?
    • How do you sort through items and determine what has value? What do you do with the items of value vs. items of little to no value?
    • What can family members do to assist their loved one who has this condition to live a better quality of life?
    • Are there resources that family members can use to help determine the value of items in their loved ones' property?
    • Are there resources for family members to get help for their loved ones who hoard?
Here are a few topics we’ll be covering in upcoming episodes

“Where’s Mom? Dealing with the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease in a parent.”

“What You Don’t Know Will Hurt You: Benefits planning.”

    “Recognizing Elder Financial Abuse.”

    “Investment 101.”

“All in the Family? Problems and Solutions When Adult Children Live with Aging Parents.”

“Environmental Problems in Real Estate Transactions.”

Thank you for joining us today!

Be sure to follow this podcast from wherever you get your audio.
