The Faros: Les Miserables 2 - Cosette

  • Summary

  • Join Andrew Williams as he reflects on Victor Hugo’s classic story, Les Miserables and The God Who Reaches Out Into the Darkness of Our Lives.

Episode 2: Cosette - The Plight of the Orphans
The Pulitzer Prize winning author, Upton Sinclair wrote, “Victor Hugo’s Les Miserable is one of the half dozen greatest novels of the world because it profoundly portrays our deepest hurts and deepest hopes.”

Hugo, with his innate instinct for God’s love and mercy for a broken humanity, paints us a picture of God who would come to us in the darkness, who hears our cry for mercy, the same God who would in an instant take up all our burdens, settle all our debts and set us free from all that holds us in bondage and fear; our God who promises to walk with us forever, holding us aloft as His precious son or daughter. And it gives Him pleasure to do this.

And like the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited – we recognize this story – we see our orphan place in it and somehow, we just know this love is true.
