David Hudson’s life reflects his love and belief in Aboriginal culture. He comes from the Ewamian (oo-rah-min)/Western Yalanji (people of the north east coast of Australia) so it is natural that he makes his home in Cairns in the midst of the beautiful reef and rainforest.

David has travelled extensively throughout Australia and the World, including Europe, Asia, Oceania and the USA as a solo artist with Greek composer Yanni and world renowned dance troupe “Tjapukai”, which he co-founded. He promotes awareness of Aboriginal culture and tradition where he travels.

David has a diverse career and is internationally renowned as a musician, artist, entertainer, and presenter. His work is considered “contemporary” yet has a very definite traditional influence.

David is inspired by all the natural elements of his environment and with each work he creates, he wholeheartedly gives a part of himself and his culture.

  • School Spectacular
    Mar 4 2021

The NSW Schools Spectacular is an Australian variety show featuring more than 5,500 students from public schools across New South Wales and was performed annually at the Sydney Entertainment Centre (later known as Qantas Credit Union Arena) between 1984 and 2015, after which the venue was permanently closed. In 2016, it moved to Sydney Olympic Park, and found its new home at Qudos Bank Arena.

The Schools Spectacular was broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from 1984 until 2012, then by the Nine Network from 2013 until 2015. The Seven Network has been broadcasting the Schools Spectacular since 2016. Fifteen television cameras are placed in various vantage points throughout the arena. All four performances are recorded, and the best versions of each show segment are edited together and then aired in the television broadcast two weeks after the live event.

The actual performance is made up of many different pieces. A typical piece would have a spotlighted soloist singing on an elevated platform in the arena, surrounded by many dancers and actors. On the stage, the orchestra would be playing the instrumental part of the song while the choirs behind and next to the orchestra would be singing the chorus of the song. There are some 400 audio inputs for microphones and musical instruments, and an amazing array of around 600 lights used throughout the show.

  • Walter Mason - Books
    Mar 4 2021

Walter is a travel writer and speaker with a special interest in spirituality.

Born in 1970 I spent my childhood in rural North Queensland, including some years doing correspondence school on a remote tin mine. On returning to “town” I devoted my life to singing, acting and the arts, and was constantly performing from the age of 12 – 17.

In 1988 I moved to Bathurst to study Theatre at Charles Sturt University. In 1991 I went to UNSW to study Chinese. I didn’t manage to graduate from either of these courses.

For many years I was a bookseller, working at Berkelouw’s on Oxford St., and later at Adyar, the famous metaphysical bookshop in the Sydney CBD. I later moved into a key role in a buying group for independent booksellers, and spent several years working with many of the most famous and long-established bookshops in Australia. Later I worked in various low-level roles in publishing, mostly in the area of sales and marketing.

I first visited Vietnam in 1994, and have been back many times since (so many I have lost count – somewhere between 9 and 12). Most notably I spent 3 months there in 1996 travelling the country with an eccentric Vietnamese-Australian Buddhist monk, living in remote monasteries and hermitages; in 1999 I spent 6 months at the Ho Chi Minh Social Sciences University studying the Vietnamese language; and I spent three months travelling and writing Destination Saigon over 2008/2009.

My latest book, Destination Cambodia, was published in September 2013 by Allen & Unwin.
