  • I have an in depth chat with the Hon David Spiers about disability , the environment and his position as leader of the opposition. I was impressed that he took on the role as disability minister. I was happy to see it not thrown in the pot with social welfare for a change. He is no longer disability minister and the role has gone to Heidi Girolamo. David has been responsible for a great many projects in his area including the wheelchair accessibility at Seacliff. He has been an active member of his community for a long time.It will be interesting to see as his community is now the state if it could benefit in the same way. He has a good track record for many projects and is well known in his community as an active participant.It is never the party but the individual that really matters.A good opposition is essential to democracy to challenge and keep the government in check. It was a pleasure to meet him and a refreshing attitude towards disability. I hope Heidi can continue that pathway. As we still have state run institutions in SA there is still a lot to do.
