  • Culture Through Chocolate with Cindy of @CocoAndre_Chocolatier
    Sep 20 2021

In this week's episode I talk to Cindy Pedraza Puente of CocoAndre Chocolatier. She is an inspiring business owner, community builder, and mom and one of the first Oak Cliffites I met when I moved there over 5 years ago. I adore her chocolate shop, my favorites are the chocolate dipped candied orange slices. Mostly I love how charming all the little latinx inspired knick knacks and cards they sell as well as the variety of delicious chocolate treats all harken back to their central theme of bringing people together and sharing in love and delight.

  • Can Wellness Exist in Prison? with Jennifer Toon
    Apr 26 2021

This week I talk to writer, activist, and formerly incarcerated Texan Jennifer Toon. We chat about mental health, conditions in prisons, and the differences in treatment between men and women's prisons.

    Referenced on this episode:

    About Jennifer

"So a little about me, I am the Mental Health Peer Policy Fellow at the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities, and I focus on school discipline (making sure kids aren't punished for mental health crisis, or manifestations of a disability) and mental health and intellectual developmental disabilities intersection, and basically anything related to criminal justice reform in these areas.

I am also a member of the Statewide Leadership Council, a group of formerly incarcerated advocates who work on policies and legislation that would help those who are system impacted.

And, I am a freelance writer. I love writing about my almost 20 years of incarceration, in hopes that it transforms societal ideas about those who have been in prison. I will include some links!"

  • On Being Abundant People with @MeiRatz
    Apr 12 2021

Mei self described as "a lot" in an Instagram post and I interjected with a comment saying that I feel the same but rather that we are abundant. We give a lot because we have a lot to give. Mei Ratz is a lot of things, mother, designer, creative, coach, photographer, but also an activist who uses photos, her personal stories, and her reach to inspire others to do better and be better. We went to college in an intimate setting together and this interview is a really special meeting of us 6 years post graduation.
