  • Jessica joins us while visiting from Kentucky to talk whiskey and barrels. Live!
    Dec 2 2021

Jessica entered the bourbon world in 2017 working for Pegasus Distilled - a black car transportation company that offered custom bourbon tours (because the people demanded it). She coordinated custom bourbon tours for individuals and groups, up to 35 custom tours per week. She developed itineraries, booked vehicles, bought tickets, educated, hosted, created unique experiences, put out fires, and made sure people had a “perfect Kentucky day”!

Jessica took a job in 2019 (that was meant to be part-time so she could continue tourism) with Fred Minnick  - best-selling author of Whiskey Women, Bourbon, bourbon curious, rum curious. Co-Founder of Bourbon & Beyond music festival, Spirits critic & judge, etc etc etc he does too much. She started his YouTube, did video editing and production, set up tastings, scheduling, etc etc etc everything else she probably signed an NDA for.

Fred was approached by a recruiter for H&A Barrel Management and he encouraged Jessica to apply. In

July 2020, she took the role of “North America secondary Barrel sales” for H&A Barrel Management so I’ve been living in the barrel finishing world and wine world since then.

  • Back after a break, we've been busy! Brandon 'The Photo Bomber' Williams joins the show.
    Nov 26 2021

We're back after a short break getting some business done. Cody is back from Moonshine University while Mike has had his hands full at the distillery lately. We talk about what's been going on and we visit with Cody's long-time friend, Brandon 'The Photo Bomber' Williams. A man who knows everything and absolutely nothing. He has a keen eye and ear for what-the-fuck news and he smells bullshit before it splashes in the toilet. Brandon joins us remotely from his bathroom and does not disappoint.

  • Paco 'The Legend' Melendez: the remix episode
    Oct 31 2021

We recorded an episode with Paco a while back that was meant to be Episode 3 but things got just a little bit out of hand with the whiskey for everyone involved except for Mike so we decided to try it again. Paco's story is just too incredible and he is involved in far too many wonderful projects to let that be lost in so much whiskeying even if he uses whiskey so effectively to raise funds to make people's lives better.

Besides being a super humble hero, Paco has a large whiskey, guns, and freedom group - @thesinnersclubhq on both Facebook and Instagram. He also founded The Melendez Foundation, a non-profit that specializes in helping the community during times of natural disasters and assisting with educational programs in elementary schools in Puerto Rico. See more about the foundation's work on Facebook @the-melendez-foundation.

And, if you're thinking "The Legend? Who does this guy think he is?" Just listen and get ready to feel like you can do more to help those around you.

  • We visit with Erik Aadland, candidate for the US Senate for Colorado
    Oct 9 2021

Our guest for this episode is Erik Aadland, a candidate for the US Senate. Erik was born into an Army family as the son of Major General (Ret) Anders and Sandra Aadland.  Moving over 21 times, Erik graduated from High School in Heidelberg, Germany, then went on to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY.  Graduating in 2002 not long after 9/11, Erik was commissioned an Army officer and went on to serve with combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, during which he received two Bronze Stars (one for valor). We talk with Erik about why he decided to run for political office and what drives him to do his part to make the world a better place.

Learn more about Erik's candidacy at https://aadlandforcolorado.com and all the socials @aadlandforcolorado.

And, of course, we also hear Cody make excuses for LSU's poor season and we listen to Mike say the word, 'championships' over and over again.

  • We talk nutrition and invention with our first guest, John Emery, then sports!
    Oct 6 2021

The very first guest on The Atypical Intellects is a good friend and one of the smartest people we know. It was a no-brainer to have John on to talk about how his intense curiosity began, the projects he's working on now, and his thoughts on general wellness and happiness.

Then, sports! Of course, we talked sports and got into upcoming college and pro football games, legacy and championships, and Tiger on Tiger contests in SEC football. How did Auburn pull out the win in such a hostile bayou environment? As Nick Saban approaches Paul 'Bear' Bryant status, is he the greatest collect football coach in history? How can he be that good and still suck in the NFL? Did you know that LSU has more overall college championships than Alabama? They do if you look beyond the pigskin.

Splash in a little whiskey and you've got our second episode! We can't wait to hear what you think of it.  Check out the episode on YouTube.
