Jose  served as Head Coach at Irving High School and Colleyville Heritage High School. Lazo is an Irving, Texas native who received his Kinesiology degree with an emphasis in education from University of Texas at Arlington in 2011. 

    The Rams are excited about their coming season. Hear Coach Lazo dive into what it means to be Ram Tough, life as a TWU wrestler, and the transition from coaching High School to College.

    Coach Vasquez is the Head Men's Wrestling Coach at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. Schriener is a NCAA Division 3 program looking to make a lot of noise this upcoming season. Coach  Vasquez is a graduate of Palo Duro High School where he won the  2016 State Champion @132lb  title. Mario finished the year undefeated at 46-0.  As a collegiate wrestler at the University of the Ozarks and Ferrum College. During his time at the University of the Ozarks he became a 2-time Conference Finalist and competed in the Lower Midwest Region. At Ferrum College, he finished his career being a 4-time Conference Finalist, Southeast Regional Finalist, and received All-American Honors with an 8th place finish at the NCAA National Championships in 2019.

    Tamyra Mensah Stock is a Texan. Born in Chicago, but moved to Houston at the age of 2 months with her mom and twin sister Tarkyia. A Katy Morton Ranch Alumni, Tamyra won 2 UIL State Championships (‘10 & ‘11) despite not wrestling until her sophomore year of HS. After High School,  Tamyra attended Wayland Baptist University where she obtained her degree in Exercise and Sports Science. As a Wrestler she continued her winning ways but becoming the Women’S Collegiate Wrestling Associations National Champion in 2014 and 2017. 

    Tamyra burst on the International scene in 2016 securing the 68 kg world team spot, but didn’t get a chance to compete due to 68 kg not being an olympic weight that year. 

    She became an Olympian in 2020 and competed in Tokyo in 2021 where she became the first ever African American Women to win an olympic Gold medal for the United States. She followed that up with a 2021 World Bronze in Oslo. But ended 2022 back on top  in Serbia as the 68 kg World Champion. She is an avid Karaoke singer, tremendous wife, woman of God, and all around amazing person. Please follow her and continue to support her on her journey.

    Oliver Pierce is the current Head Wrestling Coach at Melissa High School. Oliver grew up in and wrestled for Allen during his prep career as a three-time Fargo Champion and Cadet World Team member before wrestling collegiately at  Oklahoma and Arizona State.

    He was an assistant coach at Allen from August of 2018 until recently taking the job at Melissa. As a coach, he helped lead the Eagles to UIL State Titles in 2019, 2020, and 2021. During his tenure at Allen, he helped produce a number of future college and Division One wrestlers.

    Listen to Oliver talk about his time growing up with a coach father and mastering the art of being a multisport athlete. His time at Allen, Oklahoma, and Arizona State. As well as his vision for the future of wrestling in Texas, growth as a state, and what it'll take to get Texas elevated nationally.

  • 001 Texas Mat Talk - Lance Brown (JCU)

    Lance Brown was named as the first head coach of the men's and women's wrestling programs at Jarvis Christian University in July 2022. He will be responsible for starting and growing both programs at JCU.

    Brown has coached at the high school level for more than 10 years, serving as a head coach for eight. He spent three years at West Hills College Lemoore as assistant coach to California Hall of Fame Wrestling Coach Kent Olson, where he was a part of three conference championships, a regional championship, and a team 3rd place finish at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championship. In 2012, he was honored as the South Regional Assistant Coach of the Year and was on the California USA Wrestling National team coaching staff.

    Prior to becoming a college and high school wrestling coach, Brown was a professional indoor football head coach. In that role, he prepared football players for opportunities with the NFL, Canadian Football League, and Arena Football Leagues. He played indoor professionally as a journeyman offensive/defensive lineman, earning All-American honors twice in minor league football. Later he would have workouts with several NFL teams before leaving football due to injuries. In 2008, he was inducted to the Minor League Football News Hall of Fame for his playing contributions.
