Good morning surfers, this is your Northern and Central California surf forecast for Sunday, April 12th through Monday, April 13th, 2026.
Let's start up north in Sonoma and Marin County where we're looking at some solid swell on Sunday. Northwest facing beaches will see eight to twelve feet of action, while southwest facing spots are pumping in the eleven to fifteen foot range. There's a slight chance of thunderstorms rolling through, so keep an eye on the sky. You'll want a light jacket with temperatures reaching into the low to mid fifties, and the wind will be pushing from the west at around sixteen miles per hour, easing down to thirteen as the day goes on. We've got a pretty small low tide of two and a half feet early in the morning at two thirty, followed by a high of four point six feet near eight in the morning.
Heading down to San Francisco and San Mateo counties, things are looking equally impressive. Northwest facing beaches are also running eight to twelve feet, but the southwest exposures here are getting more juice with twelve to sixteen footers. This zone has a better chance of thunderstorms compared to Marin, so definitely stay weather aware. The water is a cool fifty seven degrees, so don't forget that wetsuit. Temperatures will be similar, reaching into the low sixties, but the wind here is coming from the southwest at a slightly stronger twenty one miles per hour, dropping to eighteen by afternoon. Tides follow a similar pattern with that early morning low and a high around eight in the morning.
Moving south to Santa Cruz County, we're still looking at solid Sunday conditions. Northwest facing beaches offer eight to twelve feet while southwest facing spots deliver eleven to fifteen footers. Water temperature is a bit warmer here at fifty seven to fifty eight degrees, and there's just a slight chance of thunderstorms. High temperatures reach into the low to mid sixties with southwest winds at nineteen miles per hour easing to seventeen. The low tide here occurs a bit earlier around one twenty five in the morning.
Finally, down in Monterey Bay and Big Sur, we're seeing some of the best looking conditions. Expect consistent nine to thirteen foot faces across the board on Sunday. The water temperatures match Santa Cruz at fifty seven to fifty eight degrees, and there's a slight chance of thunderstorms. It'll be pleasantly mild with highs in the mid fifties to low sixties, with southwest winds holding steady at eighteen miles per hour.
Now looking ahead to Monday, conditions are going to settle down considerably across all zones. The swell drops significantly everywhere, ranging from just four to nine feet depending on your location. Monterey Bay will see the smallest waves at four to seven feet, while San Francisco and San Mateo counties get six to nine footers. Sonoma and Marin will see five to eight feet, and Santa Cruz will split the difference at five to eight feet as well. The good news is the thunderstorm threat completely disappears, and we're looking at mostly partly cloudy skies. Winds will be lighter and shifting to the north, which should clean things up nicely. High temperatures will be noticeably warmer on Monday, reaching into the mid to upper sixties in most spots.
So here's the bottom line: Sunday is your day to get out there and make the most of some solid, consistent swell, just keep one eye on those storm clouds. Monday will be smaller but cleaner, perfect for a more relaxed paddle out. Get out there and enjoy some prime spring surfing along the Northern and Central California coast.
