  • Eddie Bush
    Jan 7 2025

Hockey season is in full swing, and we are celebrating our country’s beloved winter sport in this month’s episode featuring local hockey legend Eddie Bush. Learn about how his “never take defeat lying down” attitude led Eddie Bush to an extraordinary career and a lasting impact on our town.

After the story we give similar recognition to the late sports writer Scotty Carmichael who’s name now also fittingly resides on the Collingwood Sports Hall of Fame, and who served as the main source of information for this episode. We have a number of free copies of his book “Sports Personalities of Collingwood” that we would love to give out to our listeners. Just talk to our staff to get your copy while supplies last. And finally we ask for your suggestions for other worthwhile Collingwood athletes who’s stories deserve to be told. Let us know! Episode Picture:

  • An Officer, a Gentleman, and a Spy
    Nov 5 2024

Just in time for Remembrance Day, we tell the story of a Collingwood veteran, Captain Alan Telfer, whose time in the service during World War 1 took him to fascinating locations on multiple continents and embroiled him in the very stuff of later Hollywood movies. From England and France to India and Palestine, from trench warfare to espionage and Lawrence of Arabia ... see how this Collingwood native left his mark on the world.

Following the story we invite our listeners to join us at the Collingwood museum over the month of November to see three temporary exhibits all related to the legacies of Canada’s military history and the stories of local men and women who served their country. Each exhibit builds upon the others in a very profound and meaningful way. We also highlight a very special Collector’s Night in partnership with the Collingwood Legion, to be held on November 21 at the Legion’s Military Museum.

  • The Sinking of the Asia
    Oct 1 2024

This episode is a harrowing tale of life and death in the single worst disaster to happen on Georgian Bay. The sinking of the steamship Asia in 1882 marked a tragic but important turning point in Great Lakes travel and public demand for greater safety. Learn Collingwood’s important role in this story, both before and after this terrible accident. After the story our listeners are invited to join us at the museum for two separate exhibits running from October until December, each dealing with Canada’s pivotal role in the two World Wars. The first is a travelling exhibit developed by the Juno Beach Centre called “From Vimy to Juno” and the second is a companion exhibit curated by our own Collingwood Legion, Branch 63, with First and Second World War uniforms worn by local men and women. Lastly, we let you know about our upcoming haunted walking tour featuring Dean Hollin and how you can get tickets for this fun and unique opportunity. Episode Picture:

  • The Terminals
    Sep 3 2024

September marks the 95th anniversary of Collingwood’s concrete grain terminal, one of our town’s most recognizable landmarks from both land and water. But did you know that for over 160 years not one but three different grain elevators have graced our town’s harbour. In this first episode of our fourth season we recount the enduring tale of our grain terminals’ history beginning in 1855 and continuing to this day.

After the story we invite our listeners to join us for some or all of the many annual events happening in and around the museum this month. There is still time to get your submission in for the caption contest for our next terminal themed T-shirt design! Don’t delay. September 7 is our highly anticipated Shipyard Social, and from September 20-23 we will be at the Great Northern Exhibition! We hope to see you for all of them. See our website and/or Facebook page (collingwood.ca/culture-recreation-events/heritage-museum/collingwood-museum) (facebook.com/collingwoodmuseum) for more details.
