Aphasia Support Group:
The Aphasia Support Group provides an environment for psychosocial support and aphasia education, promotes everyday problem solving, teaches strategies for negotiating social situations, increases self-advocacy, and fosters recognition of one’s communication competence. The group is open to persons with aphasia and care partners are welcome to attend as well.
The focus of the Aphasia Support Group is on the word support through group interaction. It does not target specific speech-language goals but rather offers members a supportive environment for communicating, learning, and participating in a socially comfortable setting.
- Meetings take place in-person on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 2-3pm in the Speech Language Institute at Salus.
- The 4th Thursday of each month are virtual meetings from 2-3pm for those unable to attend in-person.
Book Club:
The Read Between The Lines Book Club offers a supportive group that encourages reading and social engagement for persons living with communication disorders. Graduate student clinicians facilitate discussions with the use of PowerPoint graphics, movie clips, and other visual aids. Members receive chapter summary worksheets prior to each meeting to help them prepare for discussions. Members can share ideas during the meetings or just listen to others. All members are supported for their efforts and participation.
- Meetings are held remotely through WebEx every other Friday from 10-11am.
Poetry Club:
The SLI Poetry Club provides therapeutic poetry exploration to enhance speech, language, and social skills for adults living with communication challenges after stroke. Group members will be guided in the joy of reading and creating poems to help promote communication skills and creative expression in a supportive group setting.
- Meets Virtually on Fridays 10-11am.
We welcome you!
