  • SLP 430: The Collective Magic When Hiking In Nature with Lisa Marshall
    Nov 11 2024
“I think once you walk with women in nature you experience it first-hand. So, you start to see how.going together whether it be opn a small adventure locally, or on something bigger like climbing Kilimanjaro, there’s these connections that start to happen. You’re connected with the people around you, you are having a shared experience in nature and it creates this collective effervescence if you like, this magic between you because you’re sharing something that is so special that will stay with you forever. You are also connected to the land, you’re connected to the stories, and the people of that land, you’re connected to nature and I believe through all of those things you can become more connected to yourself.” ~ Lisa Marshall In this intimate interview, Lisa discusses the concept of ‘Adventure Fitness’ – a journey of how to travel and get fit for adventures in nature. She believes in the power of shared adventures to connect us with one another and to the joy and healing that come from spending time in nature. Together, Kim and Lisa explore the importance of connection in nature, health and fitness for adventure, and how human beings can best nurture themselves. Lisa Marshall is an adventure guide, Trek Coach, Mum, wife and writer, passionate about giving people the resources and inspiration to get outdoors. She has hiked all over the world, climbed the three highest peaks in Africa, trekked the toughest long-distance hike in Europe and was part of an Expedition team, who ran over 250kms of the 10 Great Walks of Queensland in 10 Days. Over ten years, as the Event Director for the successful Coastrek Team Trekking Events, Lisa worked to build Adventure Fitness into a popular activity and has continued to share this love of movement in the wilderness with everyone she meets. As a Head Guide and Logistics Manager for GirlsTrek, an all-female Queensland built business, Lisa guides women on trails all over the world. Join Kim Morrison for a delightful and exciting conversation with Lisa Marshall in this adventurous episode. Lisa shares her journey and how she became the person she is today: an adventure guide, Trek coach, mom, wife, and writer, passionate about providing people with the resources and inspiration to get outdoors. Her definition of Self Love is: Time. Someone told me that, “Children spell love T.I.M.E.” And I don’t think they are the only ones. I believe nurturing yourself means you have to allocate time each day to your own health and well-being. And I’ve always stood by that. Her favourite quote is: That which you are seeking, you had within you all along. Links to follow: Website: https://www.girlstrek.com.au/experiences Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/trekcoach/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/girlstrek LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/trekcoach/ Quotes: I think walking is always part of my life and I have always seen the benefits of it. It’s a combination of fitness and upholds in coming together as a community. Genuinely people are more connected in nature. Connection starts to happen when you are connected with people around you. You have shared experience with nature . You are connected to the land, the stories, the people, you are connected to nature. I find in general, women in teens are very supportive with each other rather than being competitive. You have a strong desire to be prepared. Accountability to a human being is much stronger than to a behaviour change or consistency. When I step out in nature, something happens to me because I know so much that is not in my culture. So much happens that can be unexpected, you have to communicate with each person. You have to know where your strengths are and you have to be stronger to make decisions. The mind, body, and experience that you get when you’re hiking in nature is just wonderful. Having a deep sense of love and connection to a place and purpose is a big drive of us. A connection to nature and appreciating what is there. Quotes: Leadership is fundamentally about taking ownership. In each role, there’s an inherent trust that responsibilities will be met. Leaders inspire and connect through clear, compassionate communication. Empathy and compassion enables us to understand and connect on a human level. Leaders are those who adapt quickly. Leaders set standards, leading by example and inspiring others to do their best. True leaders are not afraid to admit they don’t have all the answers. Each of us has the potential to lead well.

  • SLP 428: Connecting to the Disconnection with AbbyWake
    Nov 5 2024
‘My body remembered but my brain did not. So that’s how powerful the body is. I have different moments in my life where I had these sensory reactions, or I would see something and I would be like that feels familiar or that looks familiar, but I wasn’t able to align it with a ‘remembering’ anything. But my body felt it. And that’s the power of our body, it’s a shield if we don’t want to see it. And I hate to say it this way but if we all connected to the dissociation and the disconnection to ourselves then so much truth would be revealed.’ ~ Abby Wake Join Kim Morrison in a heartfelt and transformative conversation with Abby Wake on this powerful episode. Abby shares her journey from surviving childhood abuse to becoming a professional dancer and actress, and ultimately finding healing and peace in her body. Through movement and embodiment, Abby reveals how she reclaimed her power, healed from trauma, and now guides others to do the same. In this intimate interview, Abby discusses the concept of “Inbodiment”—an inner journey to reconnect with oneself, honour personal truth, and integrate body and soul. She reflects on the transformative power of self-love, the role of identity in overcoming adversity, and the strength it takes to find light in the darkest times. Together, Kim and Abby explore the importance of nurturing empathy, compassion, and authenticity, and how movement can be a sacred space for healing. With stories of working alongside renowned artists and appearing on popular TV shows, Abby reveals how she turned pain into purpose, helping others embrace self-love and authenticity. Abby now teaches worldwide, from Coolum and Maroochydore, Australia, to online sessions, guiding her students to trust their bodies, reclaim their narratives, and live as their fullest selves. This episode is a must-listen for those ready to embark on a path to self-awareness, body connection, and transformative healing. Join Kim and Abby for a conversation about resilience, self-discovery, and the power of movement to heal lives. Her definition of Self Love is: Self-Love is to love and honour yourself. When you wake up every morning are you doing something that is yours? Are you praying, are you stretching? There’s so many definitions of self-love but it really is about honouring yourself. Her favourite quote is: “We are all in this together.” ~ Abby Wake Links to follow: Instagram: @inbodiedwoman Facebook: The Inbodied Woman Email: theinbodiedwoman@gmail.com Quotes: I was abused as a child while I grew up as a dancer, so this whole concept, movement, dissociation and coming home to yourself. The abuse brought me to the phase where I am now, which is complete peace and healing in my body. My body remembered, my brain did not. So, that’s how powerful the body is. That’s the power of our body, a shield if we don’t want to see it.” If we all connect to the dissociation, disconnection to ourselves, then so much truth will be revealed. Protection is culture as well, it is something to do. We can trust, but we need to be aware especially with the conversation we are having. There’s always a choice, but sometimes people don’t have courage, the abuse is so strong, it’s so dark and it is hard to overcome it. “Inbodiment” it’s inside, it is an internal experience that needs to be integrated. I look at my son, I look at my daughter. They are my change. The truth is in the voice of what you are doing. Who are you before the babies come in? We need to start telling the truth about it. As telling the truth doesn’t have to hurt, as healing ourselves doesn’t have to hurt. We can find a way to empower and embrace what happens to us. We need to feel, everything that flips or happens around, we need to feel. Find the truth out, start healing. Start teaching around empathy, compassion, and different ways to help people to connect their body. It’s almost watching the light come from the clouds, it’s almost watching a rainbow open especially when the men and women get it. It is so beautiful to connect with dance, in music and with other people. I always feel that movement is a gift from God, it’s the prayer from God. When we focus on the hurt people wanna hurt, but if we focus on the light people want to be a light. I didn’t rise in the darkness. I rose in the light. I believe we all have a legacy, every single one of us. It doesn’t matter how small or big it is but we are all important. We all have a role in this world. We have to embrace, accept and have compassion about that the more we will see the world shift.
