  • Enchanted Forest/Haunted Hot Lake
    Sep 21 2023
The Enchanted Forest amusement is a true labour of love for the Tofte Family and a real hidden gem of Oregon. Located in Turner, Oregon, just south of Salem, it is easily accesible on I-5. I will get my name engraved on the plaque at The Challenge of Mondor some day. Or maybe buy a brick to support them- go to their website to check that out. The Lodge at Hot Lake Springs was built at the site of a hot spring called "Ea -Kesh-Pa", originally used by the Nez Perce who lived there. It first became a lodge in 1906. It became a sanitorium, where visitors came for its healing mineral waters, and was a tourist destination for famous and regular folks alike, even visitors like Wild Bill Hickock. After it partially burned, it was only abe to use about a third of the rooms, and so gradually fell into disuse. After short stints as nusing training facilities and a nursing home, it was bought for use as a restauraunt/night club and a bath house, and then was closed due to vandalism and abandonment. It was redone in the 2000's by the Manuel family, and was reopened as a bed and breakfast, with a bronze foundry, musum and spa. It was bought by the Grande Hot Springs RV resort next, and is open now for day use and to stay. You'll have to stay there to find out the haunted part for yourself! Photos of these two will be on @j_b_chambers on Instagram. As always , the best way to help the show is to rate and review where you are listening. Thanks for tuning in, and stay curious!
