Still swooning from last week’s deep dive into Laura Moretti’s Heartbroken, we couldn’t resist picking up another one of her stories: Who is Elizabeth Bennet’s Soulmate? This Regency variation puts a lyrical twist on the beloved courtship of Elizabeth and Darcy, exploring a world where you can literally hear the music of your soulmate.

While the premise might remind Book Clubbers of An Ever Fixed Mark, Moretti’s take stands out for its fascinating world-building and thought-provoking take on relationships.

In this episode, Alicia and Emilie break down the story’s unique spin on soulmates, weighing in on questions like:

The natural, realistic and modern style of Heartbroken couldn’t feel more different from the Austen-esque, classic tone of Who is Elizabeth Bennet’s Soulmate? If we didn’t know better, we’d never have guessed these two books were written by the same author! Her ability to shift styles so seamlessly is awe inspiring.
