Podcast Like a Girl

By: Lauren Popish
  • Summary

  • But everyone has a podcast! I’m not a techy person! I don’t like the sound of my voice! If this sounds like you then you’re in the right place. Despite all of these excuses, podcasting remains one of the best ways to build a brand, create an authentic community, grow a business, and most importantly, share your unique voice with the world. In this podcast, (yep, it’s pretty meta) host, Lauren Popish, is going to show you how to do just that. Lauren started podcasting after a public speaking event gone wrong sparked a phobia of public speaking that almost ended her corporate career. Now, she helps women use podcasting to share their ideas, grow their businesses, start movements, and leave their unique marks on the world. Her company, The Wave, produces shows for some of the most influential women in health, business, spirituality, and beauty. In this show, she’s taking all of the strategies she’s used to help her clients top the podcast charts and bringing them directly to you. If you are hoping to start, grow, and monetize a podcast but don’t know where to begin, then you better hit that subscribe button right now. Join us every week on Podcast Like a Girl.

  • 014: Should You Put Your Podcast on YouTube?
    Feb 20 2023

YouTube is the second most popular search engine in the world, with over 2.1 billion users. As a podcaster, that means TONS of potential for finding new listeners (or watchers) and growing your audience through a video podcast.

Since most of you are recording your podcasts on platforms that also record video (a small upside of the pan-demi is that it has given us more ways and more understanding of how to record remotely) it makes sense when you ask how to grow your podcast, you’ll wonder should you also put your podcast on YouTube?

Being successful on YouTube isn’t as simple as posting just any old thing. In this episode, we’ll discuss the primary questions to consider when deciding whether to put your podcast on YouTube and if you should take the steps to launch a video podcast.

    Topics Covered:

    • Knowing what works and what doesn’t work on YouTube
    • The time commitment required to produce a video podcast
    • What finances are required to produce a high-quality YouTube podcast
    • Figuring out if you have the energy it takes to be successful in video podcasting

  • 013. The Best Podcast Conferences of 2023
    Feb 12 2023

One of my favorite ways to connect with other podcasters is by attending one of the many podcasting conferences available across the globe. Podcast conferences give creators like you a chance to uplevel your skills, network your way into some guest podcasting opportunities, and meet your fellow podcasters IRL.

2023 is our year to get back to it! With the worst of the pandemic behind us, let’s take this chance to meet up in person. At last! I cannot wait to put a face and a hug to the voice behind some of my favorite shows.

Being a podcaster can be lonely. That’s why we at The Wave are creating LOTS of ways to find community no matter where you are on your podcasting journey, or where you are in the world. From our weekly digital Pomodoro-inspired co-working sessions led by our Community Manager to our free community platform as a place to connect from wherever you have wifi, we have got you covered.

    Topics Covered:

    • The many benefits of attending podcast conferences you might not have thought of
    • My top 15 must-attend podcast conferences happening in 2023
    • An invitation to our online podcasting community — you never know who in our fun and supportive group will also be attending some of these events, too!
    • An opportunity just for my listeners! It may involve a chance to meet me and a bonus surprise…

  • 012: Not Seeing the Listenership You Want? Try This!
    Jan 30 2023

Every podcaster — no matter if you’re just starting out or you’ve been releasing episodes for a while — wants more listeners, right? Yeah, I see you.

First of all, remember that like other digital marketing platforms, quality is always, always, better than quantity.

However! Other than the very validating and very delightful ego boost you get when your listenership grows, there are other benefits too. Like the fact that a large audience will help you attract sponsors, approach podcast networks and ultimately attract more listeners by word of mouth. Seeing a podcast with a huge following tells people there is something worth their time at the other end of the follow, subscribe or push of the play button.

But how do you get there before you are — there? How do you build your podcast audience in an ongoing way? We'll discuss the answer in this episode.

    Topics Covered:

    • Engaged listeners can help your show through word of mouth
    • Use the live feature on your favorite social media to connect with your audience
    • Build a community that will allow for a two-way conversation between you and your listeners
    • Don't leave your listeners on read when they reach out in the DMs
    • Bonus: feature listeners on your episodes with shout outs
