WHAT IS WFYZ?
The six stories you’ll hear throughout OBM will be real. The world they live in, however, will not be. Our Beloved Medium will take place in an alternate reality where only one radio station in the entire world still exists. That’s WFYZ in the fictional town of Port Bonnet, North Carolina. However, trouble looms as tech giant Opus wants to buy the station and simulcast their ‘content’ from their streaming app, Opus 3K.
The award-winning Gia Rencone hosts The Medium, a weekly show all about art, entertainment, culture and everything in between. To try and rally support for the station, Gia has curated a six week series about the history of radio. Pulling from the WFYZ 'vault’ Gia has found an old series from previous WFYZ producer, Stuart Barefoot.
For six weeks, as the station tries to raise enough money to fend off the potential buyer, listeners will hear six stories, all related to the radio medium.
