Lisa is a wife of 30 years to her husband, Jim, and mother to five beautiful children through adoption - four living on earth and one residing in Heaven. Lisa is the Founder and CEO of Open Hearts For Orphans Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization created to provide resources for orphaned and abandoned children around the world through medical intervention, meeting basic needs, and providing their "Say Yes" adoption grants to families in the process. Open Hearts For Orphans especially believes that children belong in loving families and to date has issued over 100 adoption grants to families adopting children with special needs from twenty different countries. Lisa is also the author of With An Open Heart their family's personal account of love, loss, and unexpected blessings. This deeply moving, true story lovingly chronicles her family's shockingly short, yet profoundly powerful experience with their son Daniel and his zest for life. All royalties for Lisa's memoir are directed to Open Hearts for Orphans. 

Open Hearts for Orphans is a ministry of beauty created out of ashes. The Murphys have adopted five precious children, and their love crossed oceans for all of them. They adopted their first daughter from China in 2006 as an infant, and their second child, Daniel, joined the Murphy family in January of 2010. He was a beautiful little two-year-old boy who had been living in a Chinese orphanage with a broken heart, yet he faced every obstacle with brave determination and a smile on his face. The Murphys enjoyed so many "firsts" with their precious son - Lisa's protective "Mama Bear" nature trying to keep him in a bubble, and Jim's rough and tumble nature trying to give their son all the simple pleasures of boyhood.

After four months of embracing new life in the Murphy family, Daniel's heart surgery took place in May of that year, but much to their sadness, his body just couldn't recover from the open-heart surgery that he desperately needed, and he joined our eternal Father in Heaven. Daniel made a lasting imprint on many hearts in the community, and the Murphys are forever changed because of him. Lisa and Jim have since traveled back to bring three more children home from Chinese orphanages, but after their last adoption in 2016, they knew they could no longer afford to go back, not to mention that they were aging parents. The problem was that Lisa knew the extent of the need, and her heart had been cracked wide open to the orphan crisis. With over one hundred million orphaned or abandoned children scattered all over the globe, she couldn't pretend that the orphan crisis didn't exist or that she didn't know how to help, so Open Hearts for Orphans was born that year in Daniel's memory.
