    Let's Talk about the "D"!

    DATING 40+ is Ghetto!

We are back from our two week Thanksgiving Hiatus. We are kicking off December with our "Let's Talk About the D" Series. First up, Dating! Did you ever think to yourself that dating in your 40's is GHETTO!! Join my panel of friends as we discuss dating and all of the things we do to find "the ONE." My special guests this week are Kevin Elliott, author of more than 30 best-selling novels and my "tell it like it is" guy-friend. Maurice Cooper, an accountant from Virginia Beach, and my Godbrother who has known me since I was about 12. He is my sounding board, (and he's also set me up on some very 'interesting' dates). And holding it down for the women is Shani Twyman, a woman of a thousand talents! She's a fitness guru, avid bicyclist, and iron-woman competitor and traveler of the world! I want to be like her when I finally grow up! :-)

My panel is going to delve deep into what it's like to be 40+ and out here dating!

You & Me Us Never Part. . .

Special Friendsgiving Episode with my BFF...FF..FFFFF, Yasako Cooper

There are so many things I'm grateful for this Thanksgiving, and one of those things is my 35+ year long friendship with my bestfriend, Yasako. We've been through a lot, but most importantly, we've been through it together. This episode is a love-letter to my daughters, to share with them my story of lifelong friendship. The ups and downs, and the beauty of knowing you've got a lifelong partner in crime.

Yasako & I are sharing stories of our friendship. Some funny, some sad, but they're our stories and we hope they will encourage you to reach out to your BFF and let them know that you love them today.

    A Preemie Story

Interview with Andrea Powell - Sharing her story of her miracle birth

This week’s special guest is my cousin, Andrea Powell and she is sharing the story of the premature birth of her son, “Prince K.I.C.” Her story is one that many can relate too with 1 in 10 women experience premature labor. I pray that her story will help encourage those who are going through and give insight on how to get through.

    Oct 25 2022

Dear Teacher, My Daughter Has Dyslexia

The COVID-19 closures was an eye-opening experience for me. Having to sit with my daughter while she was doing Virtual Learning, I realized she was really struggling in the classroom. Being such a literary enthusiast, discovering my daughter has dyslexia was very humbling. It’s been a journey to learn how it shows up for her and what programs and tools would best support her. MisManners talks about how dyslexia affects her in the classroom and what she’s learned about advocating for herself.

  • I Don't Care What Ya'll Say, I'm Not Ready to Let Go!
    Oct 18 2022

I Dont Care What Ya’ll Say, I’m Not Ready to Let Go!

Letting BabyGirl go off to college was one of the most difficult times of my life. I’m still working to let go of the reigns and allow her to have more independence. Letting our kids go off to college is scary, but we have to help prepare them for that moment in their lives. My good girlfriend Lucinda, shares her experiences letting her daughter and son go off to college and give us words of wisdom. Then we’ll hear from BabyGirl herself to see how she’s doing and how she’s transitioning into her first month of school.

    Tips to Letting Go:

    • Don’t make them be the bearer of your “stuff”.
    • Build a network of support around your child.
    • Set a “check-in” date & time and honor that.
    • Remember, you’ve taught them well and trust that God will take care of the rest
    • And if you feel like you’re swimming upstream without a paddle, don’t be afraid to get into therapy…. It WORKS!
