Marvel finally gave us our first official look at The Fantastic Four: First Steps with the release of the teaser trailer during a special launch event Tuesday morning, for which The First Family’s cast itself was on hand to present AND WHAT A TRAILER IT WAS…Marvel led the drop with a space race-esque countdown in theme with the film’s 1960s aesthetic. We met all of the four main characters and even saw a glimpse of the biggest bad of all…Galactus.

Last week we reported on Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch’s statements about officially not being a part of Avengers: Doomsday. The very next day the actor recanted his claims in an interview with Business Insider, saying, "I got that wrong, I am in the next one,” adding, "Don't ever believe anything I say." Elsewhere, Chris Evans had a record of his own to set straight, denying the many reports that he has been cast to return in Doomsday while speaking with Esquire, claiming, “That’s not true, though. This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years — ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it. Yeah, no — happily retired!” Finally, in an interview on Andy Cohen Live, the legendary Patti LuPone may have shed some light on the future of Disney Plus series WandaVision and Agatha All Along, saying showrunner Jac Schaeffer told her she doesn’t do second seasons.

Sunday’s Super Bowl LIX, where the Kansas City Chiefs will defend their title against the Philadelphia Eagles, is bound to bring a bevy of trailers for movies and series in tow, but let’s talk about what exactly is confirmed, expected, predicted, and everything in between: only three motion picture studios have been willing to invest the substantial sum of $7.5 to $8 million for a single 30-second commercial spot: Disney, Paramount, and Universal. Disney plans to showcase trailers for several anticipated films, including the live-action remake of Snow White, the animated feature Lilo & Stitch, the original animated film Elio, and upcoming Marvel entries such as Thunderbolts*. Paramount is expected to promote its diverse lineup, which includes the Jack Quaid-led action film Novocaine, a musical Smurfs movie featuring Rihanna, and the latest installment in the Mission Impossible franchise, Final Reckoning. Universal may reveal trailers for How To Train Your Dragon, the horror sequel M3GAN 2.0, and Jurassic World Rebirth. Notably absent is Warner Bros and DC Studios.

Actor-director Benny Safdie will join Christopher Nolan's upcoming film The Odyssey, following his role as Edward Teller in Oppenheimer. Recent cast additions include Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, and Samantha Morton.

The topic of Captain America reshoots is one we’ve discussed a lot and recently Cap himself Anthony Mackie addressed reshoot and poor test screening rumors head on, telling Empire “It wasn’t retooled at all, every Marvel movie I’ve done has done reshoots, so it’s not retooling or remaking. You basically get the movie and the story you want, you edit it together, then go back and shoot a few more scenes." Since last week, The Hollywood Reporter has also finally revealed that the total budget of the film is significantly less than previously thought - coming in at around $180 million dollars. Switching to the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Benedict Cumberbatch made some headlines after revealing in an interview with Variety that Doctor Strange will not be in Avengers: Doomsday. Cumberbatch cited the reason being Strange’s character “not aligning with this part of the story,” and also let loose that the Master of the Mystic Arts will be in “a lot” of Avengers: Secret Wars.

In typical James Gunn fashion, the director and DC Studios co-chair gave us a first look at Milly Alcock’s Supergirl in a still photo he released on social media last week. The post also confirmed filming recently began. The weekend’s NFL division championships provided space for a new-ish Superman trailer, with mostly the same footage, but a different look at Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luther. And in our final DC news nugget, actor Ulrich Thomson was cast as villain Sinestro for the upcoming Lanterns series. Thomsen is a Danish actor who was seen in The Blacklist here in the states. In comics, Sinestro is Hal Jordan’s mentor.

The Oscar nominations were unveiled last week after a brief delay caused by the devastating and ongoing fires in California. Leading the pack this year is Emilia Pérez, earning an impressive 13 nominations despite ongoing controversy surrounding the film’s portrayal of cultural identity, which has sparked heated debates online. Close behind are The Brutalist and Wicked, tied with 10 nominations each and A Complete Unknown and Conclave earned eight nods apiece. On the studio front, Netflix emerged as the frontrunner with 16 total nominations, followed by A24 with 14, Universal with 13, Focus Features with 12, and Searchlight with 10. However, the announcement wasn’t without its surprises—or disappointments—as some fan-favorite films, including Challengers, Furiosa, and Civil War, were notably snubbed.

Warner Bros unveiled a new official trailer for SINNERS from director Ryan Coogler and frequent collaborator and star Michael B. Jordan, the film will hit theatres April 18.

David Leitch — the stuntman turned director behind John Wick and The Fall Guy — is in talks to direct Ocean's 14. The film is expected to return original Ocean's 11 cast members George Clooney and Brad Pitt, among others.

Focus Features, Universal’s art house division which released and financed Nosferatu, is reteaming with Robert Eggers for his next film titled Werwulf, currently set for release on Christmas Day 2026. While details are scarce, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the story is set in 13th century England.

George Nolfi, known for his screenplay work on movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has been tapped to write New Jedi Order, the Daisy Ridley-centric Star Wars movie. The move to Nolfi makes the third writer change for the project.

Last Wednesday morning, Marvel Television treated fans to the long awaited first official teaser trailer for Daredevil: Born Again. The trailer was met with universal praise for its dark tone and brutal depictions of violence, elements that it shares with the beloved Netflix series. The nine-episode first season premieres March 4 on Disney Plus. In some Captain America news, it was confirmed that Brave New World will have a total runtime of one hour and 58 minutes, which ties it with Ant-Man & The Wasp as the seventh shortest MCU flick to date. It will also be the first Captain America film under two hours long.

It’s brand new news today, Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in Shawn Levy’s future Star Wars film. Levy’s film has been in development with Lucasfilm since 2022, and getting Gosling seems like it could be a major step in getting the film truly off the ground and into the galaxy far, far away. Reliable scooper Jeff Sneider claims Marvel Studios is actively looking for an actor to play T’Challa/The Black Panther, replacing the late Chadwick Boseman who passed away in 2020. According to Sneider, the studio’s replacement of Boseman is only due to the fact that the MCU is working within the Multiverse currently. In related news, when asked during an interview about a dream role, Wicked star Cynthia Erivo said she would “really want to play Storm,” to “uncover how grand she is,”. Lastly, an OG villain is returning to the MCU, with Faran Tahir coming to the small screen to reprise the character of Raza, the leader of the so-called Ten Rings from 2008’s Iron Man.

In some confirmed casting news, Rory McCann will replace the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll for Ahsoka season two. McCann is best known for playing The Hound in Game of Thrones, but his roster of work also includes Gladiator II, Hot Fuzz, Clash of the Titans, and more. Ahsoka is part of Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau’s Mandoverse, and Filoni will return as showrunner for season two.

Director Andy Muschietti let it be known why he thinks the 2023 DCEU movie The Flash, flopped. On Radio Tu’s “La Baulera del Coso” show, Muschietti said the film didn’t appeal to “all four quadrants” of moviegoers. The quadrants he’s speaking of are men over 25, men under 25, women over 25, and women under 25. Muschietti also said anecdotally that in conversations with people he found they “just don’t care about the Flash as a character…particularly the two female quadrants.”

Variety reported today that MCU screenwriting veteran Marcus McFeely originally turned the Russo Brothers down about writing for Secret Wars, even though he is the reason the directing duo is returning. However, the next day McFeely called the Russos back and said he was in after coming up with an idea for the film.

Warner Brothers is bringing back The Puppy Bowl for its 21st installment this year, but will use the game to bolster its upcoming DCU film Superman. James Gunn will appear during The Puppy Bowl with his dog Ozu, who served as the inspiration for the superdog Krypto in the film. Gunn will introduce a sneak preview of Superman and deliver a “special message” to viewers.

Ludwig Göransson will compose the score for Christopher Nolan's upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey. Göransson’s other film and TV credits include Creed, Black Panther, Atlanta, Tenet, and The Mandalorian.

Succession creator Jesse Armstrong has reached an agreement with HBO to produce a feature film. The movie is based on an original idea of Armstrong’s and will center on four friends who meet up in the midst of a global financial crisis. Production is currently fast-tracked to start later this year.

Last week, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Jason Momoa, the actor who famously played the title role in the billion-dollar grossing Aquaman film, has signed on to portray the character Lobo in the upcoming DC Studios film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa, no stranger to Warner Bros or DC, has long been campaigning for the role of the intergalactic biker bounty hunter who first debuted in comics in 1983. Elsewhere, filmmaker Matt Reeves, broke his silence on The Batman II delay situation while attending the Golden Globes this weekend, saying, “I can tell you that we’ll be shooting this year. We’re doing something where the story continues from, but I hope that people will be surprised by.”

During a recent interview with GQ, Andrew Garfield, the Amazing Spider-Man himself, dispelled rumors that he has signed on to reprise his role in the upcoming fourth Marvel Studios’ Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film. We might be light on Marvel news this week, but Sunday evening’s 82nd Golden Globes Awards ceremony saw many an MCU friend and foe in attendance. Kathryn Hahn was nominated for her role in Agatha All Along, Sebastian Stan was twice nominated and won once, and Captain America Brave New World stars, Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford took the stage to present an award, as did MCU alumni Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum. Now that you got your Marvel fix, let’s talk about some winners and snubs: on the TV side of things, the winners circle featured usual suspects – FX’s Shogun and The Bear, still being awarded as a comedy despite the protests, Max’s Hacks, and newcomer Baby Reindeer from Netflix snagging a couple of wins. Also worthy of note: Colin Farrell, narrowly avoiding a snub, took home the sole award for HBO’s The Penguin. Netflix and A24 ruled the evening as far as film is concerned, with Emilia Perez and The Brutalist being highly awarded, although Wicked refused to be relegated to the sidelines, taking home the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award.

Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King led the first weekend of the new year with $23.8 million domestically, reaching $476.4 million globally. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 followed closely with $21.2 million in the U.S. and a worldwide total of $336.3 million.

Other voice talent for the show features Hugh Dancy, Charlie Cox, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

If you enjoyed diving back into the dark, broody, Gotham of Matt Reeves Batman universe during The Penguin, get ready to be disappointed. It was announced that The Batman II has been pushed from its 2026 release date to October 1, 2027. The film is set to begin production in the last half of 2025 and DC co-chief James Gunn cited Reeves working to perfect the script as some of the reason for delay. The October 2, 2026 date formerly held by The Batman II is being taken by a film coming from The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise.

The triumph of the sequel movies continues at the box office this holiday season with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 having a very successful opening before Christmas to a $62 million domestic debut and has now climbed to a worldwide total of $159.5 million. Though Disney’s prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, fell short of opening projections, the holiday season has been kind to the film as it currently holds a $221.7 million global box office. Wicked and Moana 2 still hold the overall crowns at the box office and Matt Eggers’ Nosferatu, which debuted on Christmas Day, is sitting quietly but solidly at $26 million domestically for three days.

The first trailer for A24 dark comedy Death of a Unicorn has been released. The film, written and directed by Alex Scharfman in his directorial debut, stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and hits theaters in the spring of 2025.

Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra recently told the Los Angeles Times that Kraven the Hunter is “probably the worst launch we had” in the nearly eight years he’s been at the studio, adding: “I still don’t understand, because the film is not a bad film." Insiders add that the project is still in early development but that Kris Pearn is attached to direct.

HBO has renewed Dune prequel series Dune: Prophecy for a second season.

Sony has announced that the 28 Years Later sequel titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple directed by Nia Decosta will hit theaters on January 16, 2026. The movie is the second installment in Danny Boyle and Alex Garland‘s planned zombie apocalypse follow up trilogy.

Jared Leto will officially play villain Skeletor in the upcoming live action Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Evil Dead Rise filmmaker Lee Cronin is writing and directing a new take on The Mummy for New Line. Horror powerhouses Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, along with Cronin’s banner Doppelgängers, are producing and the film is currently set for an April 17, 2026 release.

Sony has announced that filmmaker Tom Gormican’s reimagining of the 1997 snake-focused horror movie Anaconda will hit theaters on December 25, 2025. Paul Rudd and Jack Black star in the new feature from Columbia Pictures.
