This Bonus episode was first published as a "Guilt Trip" episode on Patreon on 7th April 2019.

Dolores McCrea married the man that she had met and fallen for while in Secondary School in Donegal. But her husband, Gary, was a controlling man and became abusive.

Soon the violence became too much for Dolores and she left Gary, bringing along their four daughters. But often the time after a person leaves their abuser is the most dangerous. And this was the case for Dolores.

Gary McCrea had plans for Dolores once she left him which would lead him to standing in the dock in the Four Courts just over a year later.

  • 137 - A Legacy of Violence: Derek Benson
    May 31 2024

In the middle of the night on the 13th May, 2000, a flat in Ballymun was set alight. Inside, the body of Derek Benson was found. But his cause of death had nothing to do with the inferno in his bedroom. He had been brutally killed with a blade.

The garda investigation into his murder would not only identify his killers, but a litany of abuse and violence that would continue long after the trial had concluded.

sinead has an amazing voice for telling these stories. I recommend giving this podcast a go.

Great range of 'one voice' true crime stories

I've been binging this series for the past month or so, started from the very first episode and almost up to date with it now. It has a great range of true crime stories. The majority of them British/Irish, and most of them I've never heard of before which is why I particularly enjoy this series.

Having binged them in a short space of time, it's great to hear the progression and growth of the host's narration. The first episode sounded almost like an automated voice, but she puts a lot more of her personality into her delivery as the series progresses. You can almost hear her confidence grow. Great job.

Great content but lacking in delivery

I love listening to true crime podcasts and have something of a professional interest too. I arrived here through one or two recommendations about crime stories in Ireland after listening to West Cork and many others.
The material is interesting and well researched, but I find the delivery rather monotone and too intense - like someone reading quickly through case notes. A few longer pauses to allow information to sink in would be welcome, perhaps a slower, more respectful pace. These are people who have died in tragic circumstances - rattling through their stories seems uncomfortable.
