• Detailing Success With Jacob Fried; The Story of Suds Club & F5 Detailing & Restoration
    Nov 22 2024

My guest and his family are well know in the community, even though they’ve been here a relatively short time, compared to many. But even if you don’t know the family, chances are you know their businesses! But what you may not know is the journey that brought them here, and we’ll certainly share that today!

After growing up, getting marries and starting a family in Macon, Jacob Fried and his family made the move to the lake and have never looked back. In business, Jacob is one of those individuals who sees a need and finds a way to fill it. And I mean, he goes all in. While many people see obstacles, Jacob sees opportunity. He lives the words “failure is not an option!”

He opened and operates both Suds Car Wash and F5 Detailing & Restoration, both well-known and well-patronized by many of us here at the lake. Now you’ll hear the story behind these businesses.

But besides being a good businessman, Jacob is an incredible community neighbor, husband, father and friend! He loves his community and he helps anyone who needs help, not because he has to but because he wants to, usually before they even ask!

We’ll talk about all of that, as well as his involvement at Gatewood Academy, where he characteristically jumped in to lend a hand, even before his kids started day one of school there!

  • Harvey Kart: "Where Content Meets Community; Influencing With Integrity" Part 2
    Nov 15 2024

My guest today is one of those people you meet that just make you smile right away! From his style of dress, to his engaging manner, to his witty words, Harvey Kart is clearly someone who loves life and loves people.

He has been a teacher, a salesman, a niche magazine & newspaper owner of more publications than you can count, and now a social media influencer and local advocate! Harvey has the unique ability to reinvent himself, all the while helping people and businesses succeed!

You have probably seen Harvey’s “influence” here at the lake. He spends most of his days and evenings, online, working hard to bring great content of businesses, organizations and individuals to your social media feed. And whether it’s Nextdoor, Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok or others. Harvey bridges gaps and is happiest when he is making connections for his network!

Harvey will tell us about growing up in Pittsburg and his life journey that ultimately brought him to the lake about 13 years ago. He will also explain how Covid actually was a catalyst that propelled him into what he does now.

Even if you know Harvey already, you will likely learn something new about this interesting gentleman!

    Nov 1 2024

Remember when spending time in a bookstore was such a fun & interesting experience? You could spend hours getting lost in books, or if you were looking for something more specific, ask someone who had a broad knowledge of various books to review or recommend.

Then along came the online booksellers and seemingly overnight the local bookstores were gone! Sure you could order from millions of books, but nothing beats holding it in your hands, seeing it before you invested your time and money.

My guest today is bringing the experience of a local bookstore back, right here in the lake area! Lake Country Books & Gifts is open and already becoming a popular local destination. On the show today, Tammy Callaway will talk about how her longtime dream of opening & operating a bookstore finally came to life! You will hear her love & passion for books as she tells her story. • "Inspired By Heritage, Driven By Purpose: Marcella Joseph's Medical Journey"
    Oct 25 2024

A few weeks ago, two young medical students from the Rural Health Initiative joined me on the podcast. They were both impressive young men and if you missed that show, be sure to go back and listen.

If you’re like me, you love to hear from these impressive young people who are the future of medicine for all of us!

To that end, I’m joined today by a very impressive young lady, Marcella Joseph, who not only has been a major contributor to the Rural Health Project, but is on her way to becoming a PA! You will love her story, what influenced her to pursue a medical career, and the impact working at Lake Country Medical with Dr. Chronos has had on her career plans.

She will talk about her Haitian heritage, as her parents both immigrated from Haiti, and the strong influence they have had on her life. If we’re lucky, she may even speak a bit of Creole for us!

Marcella has studied abroad, attending training in Thailand, South Africa and France. She will tell us about that experience, and compare American medicine (and cuisine!) with those countries she visited!

She is majoring in Biology & Psychology at UGA, while minoring in American Sign Language. She will tell us how all of that aligns with her career aspirations on the show today.

  • All Aboard For Change: Theresa Kemp & The Victory Train Story Part 2
    Oct 18 2024

There are plenty of people who talk about changing the world, making it better and especially improving the lives of kids. There are far fewer who actually do something toward it. My guest today is not only doing something, but doing something amazing and changing the lives of children right here in Greene County!

Theresa Kemp saw a need and founded Victory Train. If you’re not familiar with this incredible organization, you will be inspired by the work they are doing for the kids who need it the most.

Theresa is from Dallas, Texas, one of 10 children, who grew up with education as a priority. And the results are: All ten of them graduated from college, seven of them are attorneys and nearly all have post graduate degrees! And it gets even more interesting, they all went to the same school and so did all of THEIR children!

Victory Train was created with a single goal, to help ensure that the kids graduate from high school. But they’re not working with older kids; they’re working with kids from birth through the early years, because what they found is if you wait, it’s too late. I can’t wait for you to hear how they are doing it and the results they are achieving! After hearing the story, you may want to get aboard the Victory Train too!

  • St. Vincents de Paul Georgia- "A Place To Call Home"
    Oct 4 2024

Today’s show features not one, but two guests! With me is Cathy Lepkowski & Mike Sleeth. Both of them are members of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church here in Greensboro and both are part of the St. Vincent de Paul Georgia Conference. This wonderful organization works diligently to bring help and hope to neighbors in need.

Some of the important areas they work in include increasing healthcare access, decreasing food insecurity, increasing food access and increasing housing stability. We will talk specifically about a grant opportunity they are currently working on with the Department of Housing & Urban Development to alleviate some of the rental housing challenges in Greene, Putnam & Hancock Counties.

We’ll talk about why this is such a huge problem in the area and how the approach of St. Vincent is unique, sustainable and scalable throughout Georgia. They will tell us about the community concept of the project, "A Place To Call Home."
