  • Nightmare Before Christmas movie review
    Nov 14 2024

The all-time Tim Burton classic, Nightmare Before Christmas is beloved by many people. It’s a rare movie that can pose the question: Is it a Christmas movie or a Halloween movie? It’s a subjective question not meant to have a real answer, but if you want to be right, it’s a Christmas movie. If that was the end of it, it would be enough, but this movie forces some to pose another possibly unimportant question: Who’s movie is it? Is it Tim Burtons, like so many believe? Or is it Henry Selick’s?

Every. Single. Godzilla. This is something I was planning to do anyway when I realized this year, 2024, is his 70th anniversary. I grew up watching Godzilla marathons on the sci-fi channel and have bought many of the newer ones to watch and enjoy with my family. However, I haven’t seen them all! Join me on my quest to watch Every. Single. Godzilla movie in order!

  • Trick 'r Treat review
    Nov 1 2024

Ah, Trick ‘r Treat, the most modern Halloween classic I can think of. At a time when the horror and Halloween market was already so oversaturated, even the big dogs were struggling to find their audience amidst reboots and resequels, along came Trick ’r Treat, it’s lead killer Sam just swaggering in like he owned the holiday. It was a breath of fresh air while simultaneously working as a love letter to older horror. Basically, it had it’s Halloween themed cake and ate it too.

  • Venom: Let There Be Carnage movie review
    Oct 27 2024

I already stated what a huge fan of Venom and Carnage I am in the review for Venom, so I don’t want to obsess on it, but damn. I know movies based on pre-existing media can’t be a 1:1 ratio when translated, but sometimes they veer so far off I have a hard time recognizing them.

  • Venom movie review
    Oct 24 2024

Venom is an interesting nut to crack, as I will never concede to a Spider-

man-less Spider-man Universe. It was a bad idea then, it remains a bad idea now,

it will be a bad idea in fifty years. You simply miss out on too much by cutting out

the central character of a universe. It’s always been a strange choice. So can they make this

    work?

  • What We Do in the Shadows movie review
    Oct 24 2024

In a world where the format is more than a little stale, What We Do in the Shadows wastes no

time in showing or reminding the viewer why the mockumentary works. I would argue, in

fact, it’s a rare comedy boasting more jokes in the first ten minutes than some

entire comedies I’ve seen, perfectly balancing the fantastical with the mundane.
