Hey, folks! We're bringing this impromptu episode of Player 1 vs The World's StrangeCast in the wake of the Deck Nine layoffs. Just a very important PSA: we recorded this episode on Saturday (7th December), so we are well aware even more layoffs have happened. We will be covering more of the layoffs, including Felice Kuan's departure, on the next full episode of StrangeCast, which will drop next week. Back on topic: Adnan and Adam shared their immediate reaction to the news that Life Is Strange: Double Exposure developer Deck Nine had announced its second round of layoffs in 2024. At the time of recording, the layoffs included Double Exposure director Jonathan Stauder. Adnan has since been covering the layoffs on social media and has found close to 20 confirmed ex-Deck Nine devs who have been laid off.
What does this mean for the Life Is Strange franchise and Double Exposure's sequel? Can -- or will -- Deck Nine bounce back from this? Will Square Enix begin to pivot the direction of the series? The StrangeCast hosts discuss all of that and more on this special episode of the podcast.
