Language of the Unheard

  • Summary

  • Andy and James begin the episode discussing the 2014 HBO Sports with Bryant Gumbel episode where a 14-year-old is shown being able to buy not one, but two guns at a Gun Show.

They switch the subject to the difference between Civil unrest, Riot, or Unlawful Assembly.

The guys discuss three major Riots that occurred in the last 30 years. James breaks down what occurred in his city of Cincinnati back in 2001 when a Cincinnati Policer Officer gunned down Timothy Thomas, and how most of the unrest was in the Over-The-Rhine section of Downtown Cincinnati.

Andy discusses the 1992 Los Angeles Riots that stemmed from the not-guilty verdicts of LAPD officers that were videotaped beating Rodney King. Both agree this was due to the anger the citizens felt over their treatment of police brutality and racial tensions.

They finish discussing the most recent gatherings after the death of Breonhna Taylor, George Floyd, and Ahmaud Arbery. How this was amplified by the growth of the internet and social media platforms.

Near the end, Andy and James both try and figure out how we can make most gatherings and lawful assembly. James also asks about January 6th, 2021, if that was a riot, unlawful assembly, or peaceful.

Finally, Andy hits a sore spot with James discussing Gabe Kapler as they close the show out.
