Race, a graduate of Olney High School, began writing country music as a freshman at the University of Oklahoma in his dorm room at The Towers, he said. He picked up his pen and guitar in earnest when stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Ricketts had recently graduated from the OU’s theater program and planned on trying his luck on Broadway when the pandemic hit. On Sept. 4, 2022, “940” entered 95.9 KFWR’s “The Ranch Top 12” weekly countdown at Number 12, rose to Number 10, and exited the countdown on Oct. 2, 2022. His second single, “You Don’t Deserve Writing a Song About” with Presley Hale, entered the countdown on April 9 at Number 12 and climbed steadily to Number 4 on May 21. • Episode 67 "We Outta Write Sometime" with Ben Kadlecek
    Sep 6 2023

Ben Kadlecek is a 26 year old, Southern Rock/Alternative Country Artist from the Texas Hill Country town of Dripping Springs. Ben moved to College Station, Texas after high school to attend Texas A&M University.  It was during his time as an Aggie that his passion for his music really ignited.  He began regularly attending open mic nights in the area and started writing his own songs.  He released a single in the middle of 2018 followed up with a 5 track debut EP "Brazos County Bound" in 2018 and a 7 song album "Secrets, Whiskey & Lies" released in March of 2021.

Ben spent months playing acoustic shows and small band shows before forming the band that currently backs him on shows across Texas and other southern states. What he really loves is the art of story-telling.

A piano player since the age of seven, Ben's unique gift is the fact that he can command the stage behind both a keyboard and a guitar. He treats the craft of songwriting like a puzzle, trying to find the best way to make the pieces fit while weaving a meaningful story throughout the song. His first major cut as a songwriter is one he previously released on his own project "Brazos County Bound".  Amen is the lead single from Nashville recording artist Jacob Bryant's 2022 album "Barstool Preacher".  Ben was busy in 2022 with singles "Ghosts" released in January and finding its way to BMI's Texas Top Ten playlist and "Tell Me" landing on Spotify's Fresh Finds Country playlist following in February.

Ben started 2023 with an acoustic release of a song that came from the struggles of the COVID19 Pandemic. Co-written with Taylor Graves, “Feel” addresses the feelings of depression and loneliness that were all too commonplace during that time. His latest song is a joint write and release with friend and Texas artist Trent Cowie. “Have Ourselves a Day” is a fun summertime song that came out on June 2 of this year. A songwriter, vocalist, and talented multi-instrumentalist Ben Kadlecek aims to bring something new and creative to every listener. He is one of the new faces in the country and southern rock scene to keep your eyes and ears on! We'll chat with Ben about his music, his new chapter in Nashville and much more.
