It is possible to protect biodiversity and obtain social and economic benefits.

  • Summary

  • Latin America and the Caribbean are home to the most significant species and ecosystem diversity on the planet: more than 40% of the world's biodiversity, including almost a third of the planet's freshwater and nearly half of its tropical forests. The region is home to six of the world's most biodiverse countries (Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela) and stores approximately 104 gigatons of carbon, with the Amazon region storing around 10% of global carbon. However, human activities, deforestation and the emission of products and chemicals that damage nature, increase the loss of resources and affect almost 40% of the world's population. But there are positive mechanisms and actions for nature that would help us to combat climate change and biodiversity loss.

Today in this new episode of IT’S POSSIBLE we'll discuss why and how investing in nature pays off. We will hear firsthand how this agenda is advancing in the region with three expert guests Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, CEO of the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), Laura Ortiz Montemayor, Chief Purpose Officer of SVX Mexico, and Mariana Bellot, Senior Technical Advisor at The Biodiversity Finance Initiative, BIOFIN.
