Lesson Summary:

Doctrine and Covenants 3-5 tell the story of some early challenges faced by Joseph Smith in the work of translating the Book of Mormon. Section 3 reveals the Lord's rebuke to Joseph after he lost 116 pages of the manuscript, emphasizing the consequences of fearing man more than God and the unstoppable nature of God's work. Section 4 provides guidance on qualifications for those who wish to serve in God's work, highlighting faith, hope, charity, and love. Section 5 focuses on the role of witnesses to the Book of Mormon, introducing Martin Harris's opportunity to become one of the witnesses if he remains faithful, and reassures the truth of the Book of Mormon through divine witnesses.
