I Love My Baby, And...

By: Erin Schlozman and Ruby Falk
  • Summary

  • Motherhood is awesome. But not always. Holding space for the best parts of motherhood seems impossible when the challenging parts feel really heavy – and vice versa! Erin, licensed therapist, and Ruby, licensed therapist candidate, hold nothing back when talking about the dual realities associated with this chaotic, wonderful, hard, hilarious, sad, and undeniably happy part of life. This podcast is a place for community. Submit your thoughts, feelings, or wonderings to our voicemail box or email, and let’s talk about it! We can't wait to hear from you.

  • I Love My Baby, and…I Know Other Moms Can Do This Better

Do you ever feel like you’re comfortable in your role as a mom, but then those little intrusive thoughts come in and tell you that other moms are doing it better? And because you’re tired, you start to believe those thoughts? Same.

We’re going to be really intentional with those quotes here, you guys. Because early parenthood is full of a lot of feelings and thoughts of “failure.” But this is a perception that we made up. And we gotta talk about that. Maybe it feels like you’re: “Failing” at your marriage. “Failing” at your role as a parent. “Failing” at providing enough mental stimulation for your infant. “Failing” at….the whole experience.

This week, Ruby and Erin are breaking down the lies we tell ourselves, including the age-old favorite that everyone knows what they’re doing besides you (lol). They’ll explore what it means to feel like a failure in your relationship post-baby, and how these feelings simply reflect the meaning you assign to things.

Are you looking for a therapist in your area to navigate some of these feelings? Amazing!! We recommend trying something like Psychology Today or Postpartum Support International to help you find the right therapist for you.

  • I Love My Baby, and…I’m Workshopping the Concept of Self-Care (+what’s coming this season!)
    Sep 11 2024

Welcome back, friends!! We took the summer off to drive around to 178 different camps, travel, and plan some awesome episodes. We’re SO happy to be back.

In this episode, Erin and Ruby continue to explore the concept of self-care as it relates to life after baby, and life in your relationship with your partner. We know it’s important to take care of ourselves - at ANY point in our lives, let alone after we’ve had a baby. But finding the routine, finding the meaning, and making sure you and your partner are on the same page about what “self care” means is just….a lot. Thankfully, you’re not the only one who feels that way!

So join us for our first episode back in a few months, tune out the world and enjoy listening to Erin repeat herself 90 times because of a sound glitch involving microphone feedback (a million apologies)!

Whether it’s something you’ve wanted your whole life or something that sorta just happened, the shift to motherhood and all that it entails can catch you by surprise. Suddenly, your life feels like it revolves around feeding, sleeping, enrichment activities, mom groups…the list goes on. So what happens to all of the things that made you YOU before becoming a mom? Can you find a way to prioritizethem without feeling guilt for doing so?

We are so excited to be joined by Robin Hilmantel, senior director of editorial strategy and growth at BabyCenter, and, most importantly, mom of 3 boys! This week, Erin and Ruby use Robin’s professional expertise to weigh in on what the BabyCenter community of moms has to say about the pressures to abandon the parts of yourself that you valued after becoming a parent. From acknowledging the presence of the identity shift, to implementing (practical!!!) self-care strategies, this group will cover it all!
