Great for American Sports Fans

This series is unapologetically American, which while no bad thing in itself, does mean that listeners have to have a decent knowledge of American sports culture and it's stars for some of the content to make sense. As an Englishwoman most of the sports stars in this series are people I'd never heard of and although I still found their stories interesting I felt I missed some of the "WoW" factor the makers were aiming for as I had no point of reference.
It's an interesting series as although most episodes are autobiographical in nature it takes 3 episodes to explore a well known( even I'd heard of this story!) rape case perpetuated by 2 school Football players. Taken as a whole it feels a little like a bunch of sports guys sat round and told each other their favourite sporting stories which they then went and recorded - again not a bad thing at all!
I enjoyed the series and would definitely recommend giving it a try - just be prepared not to recognise a single sports "star" if you are not American :)

Great story telling

I hadn't heard most of the stories here. Well put together and the combination of narrative and interview was just right.
My favourite was the ice hockey episode but all were worth a listen. Great way to finish the series too.

Priorities

Gives more favorable focus to the poor sobbing rapist who never intended to rape anyone and got back on the football team, than the victim. Applauds happily that the people who threatened violence got more prison time than the rapists who committed violence. Ends with a triumphal song that if you think American justice needs reform you can leave America. Truly stupid.

Sometimes simplistic

I found the 3-part Steubenville story to be enormously one-sided. I left with no more understanding of what caused distrust in the police, or how the media referred to them as "promising athletes" rather than "convicted rapists", and so on. The conclusion is that "internet trolls caused harm and the town/law enforcement had no issues". So much is left out that it sounds like Disney villains descending on a small town.

Seeing how they picked a side for that, rather than understanding the social issues and previous cases, left me hollow. What of the other stories I didn't see on the news - maybe the all-star NHL player has a side that isn't told? Or was the female boxer not always a victim? I've lost my trust in the series to tell the whole story, which unfortunately undermines the otherwise interesting stories.
