  • Sinzia Reese, Healing Through Craft

    Sinzia Reese talks about her sheltered life in rural Gilboa, NY. In her childhood, she spent summers playing manhunt and diving off "pride rock" into the Schoharie Creek. As a teen, a violent tragedy involving a family member pushed her to leave home and find solace and anonymity hundreds of miles away in Providence, RI. Sinzia shares how coming home, recovering from surgery, and learning to crochet (a craft passed down from her mother and grandmother) helped her heal physically and emotionally, and find a new appreciation for her quiet home in the hills.

  • zaybra, Dancer & Sourcepoint Practioner

    zay grew up barefoot, snacking on string beans in their family garden in the rural Northern Catskills. In this episode, zay explains how a childhood conversation in a car turned into a lifelong commitment to dance and how they challenge gender norms in their practice.

    zaybra is a dancer and Sourcepoint practitioner from rural Bovina Center, NY. They are exploring ways of integrating creativity, health, and somatic movement into collective care and personal exploration. For several years, zay performed with Yoshiko Chuma and the School of Hard Knocks in NYC and collaborated with Nicole Loeffler-Gladstone in “Scarcity Complex or 21st Century Feelings.” zaybra has performed at MoMA PS1 (Queens, NY), Judson Church (NYC), Center for Performance Research (Brooklyn, NY), as well at many DIY venues in Bushwick, NY. In 2021, they created a short film that premiered at Bushel Collective in Delhi, thanks to NYSCA's Decentralization Individual Artist Grant administered by The Roxbury Arts Group.
