Estuaries, blue carbon and climate change

  • Summary

  • What feeds our coastline, providing it with nutrients and habitat for juvenile fish? Where do people go to play and swim? The estuary.

In this episode of Let's Talk Coast, Professor William Glamore from the Water Research Laboratory an engineering school within the University of New South Wales, explains how estuaries are both a fragile but robust environment, and discusses the important work that he and his colleagues have been doing for decades on re-creating intertidal wetlands. Will talks us through the blue carbon method, a policy document that was recently launched by the Federal Government, which sets out a method for restoring estuaries to produce a financial product called an Australian carbon credit unit.

This episode was recorded on the lands of the Darramuragal or Darug people.

This is an Australian Coastal Society podcast, produced and hosted by Gretchen Miller.
