Episode 68: The Comfort Quilt Against Cancer Switch

  • Summary

  • This podcast had me picking up my knitting needles for those in need from the get go!

Ten years ago the founder and CEO of Comfort Quilts Against Cancer, Bronwyn Dunn, lost a dear friend Monica to breast cancer. Bronwyn wanted to find a way to honour Monica’s memory and as both were passionate crafters it felt natural for Bronwyn to commemorate her memory by starting a quilting charity. In January 2012 Comfort Quilts Against Cancer was launched and three months later on the anniversary of her friend’s death, the first quilt was gifted.

As of the end of 2021 over 2000 quilts have been sent to recipients. Bronwyn and I chew the quilt on how large a task they took on when endeavouring to set up a a registered Not for Profit charity. How they manage to fund the operations and how many volunteers they manage to ensure those in need are looked after in their most darkest hours.

Bronwyn shares her recipients joy when receiving the quilts and that alone keeps her going whilst remaining employed as a virtual assistant.

This is a must listen for anyone who needs to find a source of inspiration in helping others or are thinking of embarking upon setting up a NFP organisation..
