  • Alycia was a high school junior who was bored in her sex ed class. She happened to find The Color Purple sitting on a shelf next to her, began reading, and her life was never the same. 

    The main character, Celie, experienced the worst side of life in the novel. Alycia walked with Celie through her journey and came out of it with a new appreciation of her own worth as a young woman. Alycia had never been a reader, but this book changed that. And since then, she found a love of female-centric literature, as well as a new appreciation for herself as a worthy human being.
