Mel delivers again

Useful and easy to implement in my daily life. Mel is like me. I am like Mel. She could be my neighbor and that’s part of what makes this book so good

Some useful stuff but also some missing stuff

Mel Robbins makes a great point about "motivation" being crap. Perhaps a little over egged but very valid. Ditto that doing stuff causes motivation. Not the other way round. You could actually use this. Especially on sluggish days.

Now what's missing. Suppose you have just too much to do. And not all of it is as useful, if unpleasant, as exercise or working on a project. It's the daily grind that steals your time. What then? Just keep doing a countdown and start? You've used twelve hours and still not done.

The next unaddressed issue is that you need down time. Despite what sone bosses may think. Military units ensure that staff are rotated from high intensity roles to recovery and training. So what does your life look like if all you do is firefight all the time?

So take something from this chapter but recognise that there is more to it.

Silly voices and tough love is getting old

I agree with all the other comments, the silly voices and the tough love is getting old and does nothing.

You can convey information without telling the listener they are pathetic because they do not want to exercise.
(Pathetic, childish)

Bossy, aggressive and patronising

I found this utterly repellent. Got about fifteen minutes in and finally her baby taunting voice got too much. I suspect she’s trying to give the listener a kick up the bum into action ,but it comes across as nasty and arrogant. Never again thanks!

“No Nonsense” = Rude

If you’re struggling with motivation due to depression, anxiety or perfectionism I’d give this one a miss. The author goes out of her way to trot out a bunch of lazy stereotypes that seem designed to reinforce your worst fears about yourself. She also at one point puts on a baby voice to tell the listener they need to ‘grow up’, so it seems that irony isn’t her strong point either.

A bit hack and clearly doesn’t grasp learning

I understand that being motivated can be difficult yet within the first Episode Robbins goes into saying you are being “childish” if you only go with how you feel and nothing would get done if you didn’t parent yourself. Actually learning to trust your gut and go with how you feel is an incredibly important skill, pushing through all of it leads to burn out and no joy in life. If you left it up to kids, they would learn by intuition and be curious about the world, trying and experimenting in doing things. I’d rather be like my kid than my parent. Kids achieve a LOT more by going with their feelings.
