Louis Theroux wannabe but good.
Interesting story. At times it's a bit repetitive. I think it could have been 6 episodes. Performance was solid. Great documentation. It's hard not to miss the influence of Louis Theroux it both choice of story and delivery. In fact at times you feel yourself falling into the familiar tones of Theroux only to realise it's not.
I'd have given the story a 5 star had it not been so similar to Tiger King.

Troubled, fascinating characters
Since Tiger King we've come to expect wild animal owners to be colourful characters, but this story shows that some of the most complex and sometimes twisted stuff happens far from the cages and stages. Jamie Fullerton paints a portrait of Sam, a bear-wrestling impresario whose strange, dangerous and abusive life left an impact on many people, including a man killed by his bear.
Jamie makes an unexpected but somehow perfect guide through this underworld: he's an Englishman dropped into rural Ohio, and while he's now an insightful and canny interviewer and journalist, he describes wrestling one of Sam's bears in his more reckless youth. So he brings a lot of depth and humour to a story that could so easily have been reduced to its lurid details. So while the content bears (sorry!) some similarity to Netflix's animal show, it'll appeal equally to fans of Louis Theroux and Jon Ronson.
