  • DraftCast 34: World Under-18 Championships Group B Preview with Chris Peters
    Apr 21 2021

On this episode of the DraftCast, Tony is joined by Chris Peters from Hockey Sense with Chris Peters to preview Group B at the World U18's in Texas! After some general thoughts on the tournament, the pair discuss the top players and expectations for all five teams in the group.

The Czech Republic roster has some sneaky good talent, especially on the back end. Headlined by Stanislav Svozil, Jiri Tichacek and David Jiricek on defense, they could be a fun team to watch. Finland is always a fun team. Tuomaala, Salminen, and Koivunen should be among their best forwards and their back end has some underrated talent in Malinen, Ervasti, and Heimosalmi. Germany has had some recent stars but is there anyone ready to take the reigns?

The Russian team will be really fun with super-prospect Matvei Michkov and the recently cleared Ivan Miroshnichenko providing depth for Nikita Chibrikov and Fyodor Svechkov, The Russians will be a force to be reckoned with. The Americans are missing some key pieces and they have questions in goal but they feature young guns Rutger McGroarty, Lane Hutson, Logan Cooley, Isaac Howard, and Charlie Stramel from the NTDP U17 squad. Accompanying the young talent are Chaz Lucius, Dylan Duke, and Sasha Pastujov. The U.S. will be gunning for gold at the U18s yet again!

Be sure to check out the Group A preview with Steven Ellis from the Hockey News as we go over Canada, Sweden, and the rest of the group in-depth as well!

  • DraftCast 33: World Under-18 Championships Group A Preview with Steven Ellis
    Apr 19 2021

On this episode of the DraftCast, Tony is joined by Steven Ellis from The Hockey News to preview Group A at the World U18's in Texas! After some general thoughts on the tournament, the pair discuss the top players and expectations for all five teams in the group.

Defender Dmitri Kuzmin and goalie Ivan Zhigalov highlight the Belarusian roster who could be looking to make some noise in the weaker fo the two groups. Latvia is a feisty team but with no real prominent NHL Draft prospects on their roster, they'll might have an uphill battle. Switzerland always seems to push teams at international tournaments and with some exciting players on their roster such as blueliner Dario Sidler and forward Lorenzo Canonica, they could be poised to finish just behind the big-two.

Sweden is bringing a strong roster to the event, headlined by draft prospects Fabian Lysell, Simon Robertsson, Simon Edvinsson and Anton Ollson. They could be the one team that could push the Canadian club. Speaking of that Canadian team, there is always intrigue on the roster but Connor Bedard (2023 NHL Draft) and Shane Wright (2022 NHL Draft) will be the ones who everyone has their eyes on. The young studs are featured on a strong roster that includes the likes of forwards Mason McTavish, Francesco Pinelli, Dylan Guenther, and Brett Harrison. The defense is strong as well with names like Brandt Clarke and Corson Ceulemans providing the pop on the back end.

Enjoy this episode with Steven Ellis and be sure to come back on Wednesday to listen in as Tony is joined by Chris Peters to preview Group B!
