(1) “DECLARING THE UNKNOWN GOD”

In Acts 17:22-23 (KJV), Paul stands in the midst of Mars' hill and addresses the people of Athens, who are known for their religiosity and their worship of many gods. Paul acknowledges their devotion but points out an altar with the inscription "TO THE UNKNOWN GOD." Using this as a starting point, Paul declares to them the identity of this unknown God. He explains that this God, whom they worship without knowing, is the Creator of the world and everything in it. Unlike the gods of gold, silver, or stone, made by human hands, the true God is not confined to temples or represented by material images. Paul emphasizes that God is near to each one of us and that in Him "we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28, KJV). This lesson highlights the importance of understanding and knowing the true nature of God and how he became a man to reconcile His relationship with His people and His creation. Through this, Paul reveals the identity and nature of the one true God to those who were previously unaware.
