  • Four Outtakes & A Funeral (Linda Green bonus)
    Dec 28 2024

In our quest to cover every bit of TV writing from Russell T Davies, we've been brought today to a strange little "sitcom" from 2001. RTD wrote one episode of the show Linda Green, which we're watching to complete his 1999-2005 era. We don't focus on the main cast (apart from when they're getting a bit too pleased with themselves) because we're too busy seeing Anne Reid appear in a guest role. We also look at what RTD is saying about death and legacy in this episode, and why the messaging feels so confused by the end.

  • A Wicked Time (review bonus)
    Dec 21 2024

This podcast is an excuse for Zac and Louis to discuss things they like/are interested in. Zac liked Wicked so much that he has been looking for people to talk to about it, and Louis found it so interesting they knew it was time to hop on a call. In this review bonus, we talk about subversions, disability representation/discourse, and Jeff Goldblum. Enjoy!

  • Children of Ten (Casanova ep. 2)
    Dec 7 2024

We're touring Europe today! Zac and Louis are back watching Casanova, where our seductive hero has been exiled from Venice, and must now visit every European capital to get turkeys off the menu... I mean, to get a pardon from that country's Venetian ambassador. Along the way, he finds fame in England, fortune in France, infection on the way to Poland, and fire in Naples. Joining him along the way is Rocco and his illegitimate son, who is also called Giac! Meanwhile, Zac tells us about his journeys of the soul, and Louis recounts a more literal journey he took last month.

  • The Doctor of Venice (Casanova ep. 1) w/ Bruno Buckley
    Nov 9 2024

It's a new show, with a very familiar face. Louis and Zac are joined by short-filmmaker Bruno Buckley to dive into Casanova, Russell T Davies' titillating period drama, about Italy's most famous romantic. The show stars David Tennant, Nina Sosanya, Laura Fraser, Shaun Parks, Matt Lucas, and some people who weren't in Doctor Who, and it was released in 2 or 3 parts (don't worry we'll get to that) in 2005. With a direction style much more ambitious than the shows we've reviewed so far, we knew it was time to shift our approach to commentary, and give more focus this time round to the filmmaking process, so enjoy!

  • The Max That Cringes (Mine All Mine ep. 6)
    Oct 26 2024

The thrilling conclusion of Mine All Mine, and it's election day! Danny is alive, but everyone is in danger, as Zac and Louis sit down to pick apart the explosive finale. Max is back at the whim of the townsfolk, which is almost a shame considering how much fun last episode was. The duo also look back on the series as a whole, what the show could have been had it picked up the pace sooner.

  • A Second Ianto (Mine All Mine ep. 5)
    Oct 12 2024

After so long, the podcast is finally gay again. Zac and Louis are back to look at Mine All Mine Episode 5, most famous for introducing Yanto (not Ianto) Jones, and not actually airing on TV. The Vivaldi's are reigning supreme, but how long before the power corrupts? (spoiler: like 2 days) This episode was greatly cut down before syndication and stuck onto the front of Episode 6 to create an abridged series finale, but thanks to the power of rare DVDs, Louis and Zac were able to review the episode in its entirety, and it turned out to be way more crucial to the plot than episodes 3 and 4 combined (and that's scientific fact). We hope you enjoy this one, because we had such a blast making it.

  • Kaos, Ludwig & Lady Gaga (review bonus)
    Oct 10 2024

Here's a bonus treat for you all. In the latest episode of Davies on Davies, we went on a lot of tangents, so to help with pacing we've separated our media review recap into it's own thing. It's time to hear our takes on Lady Gaga, Kaos, Ludwig, Dark (and other time travel television), and seeing Juno Dawson at a literary festival.

  • Justice 4 Eggman (Mine All Mine ep. 4)
    Sep 28 2024

This is one of those unhinged episodes, call us Freudian the way we slip. Max has seized the town and it's kicking into gear, so strap in as Zac and Louis mourn a lost future filled with Concordes and Millennium Wheels. Zac recalls his theatrical past, and jumps in to defend Sam the Eggman's social standing. Leo's gayness is bubbling to the surface, and it's making Louis want to introspect (when he's not doing another elaborate bit).
